Student answer (Band 5.5)

In modern era, education have a significant influence on individuals and society as a whole. Education either related to the History or Science and technology both are crucial for personal development of the students. I hold a strong believe that the Science and technology as a subject in schools are more important part of curriculum than History. This essay discusses both views before drawing a conclusion.

To begin with, there are several reasons about the preference of Science and technology over History in schools. Firstly, it brings new innovations like "artificial intelligence (AI)" that contributes efficiently in the progress of students overall academic performance. For instance, when the students have well understanding about technology and its usage; all online resources have accessible to them they can be used these resources at any time at any place. These types of positive developments are due to the result of proper knowledge regarding this subject.

On the other hand, History is equally important because it gives us the knowledge about our forefathers efforts and contributions. History helps us to understand our relationship with other countries, overall sector's economy, export and import and manufacturing industries. For example, history is also important for the students who are willing to join politics in the future because when they have knowledge about laws and policies will be able to speak about the basic rights of public.

In conclusion, although History promotes social interaction, Science and technology encourages people to improve their abilities and achieve their ambitions. In my opinion, both are necessary for personal and professional development. Therefore, maintaining a healthy balance is the most practical approach.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both the importance of History and the preeminence of Science and technology, while also clearly stating a personal opinion. The introduction outlines the writer's stance, and both body paragraphs present relevant arguments and supporting examples. For instance, the writer supports the view on technology by mentioning artificial intelligence and online resources, and supports History by linking it to future politicians and legal knowledge. However, some ideas are slightly underdeveloped or repetitive, such as the concluding sentence contradicting the explicit thesis by stating 'both are necessary' after arguing that technology is more important. This places the response comfortably at Band 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay is coherent overall with a clear logical arrangement, utilising standard transitional markers such as 'To begin with', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion' to signal the direction of the text. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, separating the introduction, two body paragraphs, and the conclusion. However, referencing and cohesion are sometimes faulty or mechanical. For example, phrases like 'all online resources have accessible to them they can be used these resources' demonstrate awkward connective flow and run-on structures that hinder seamless progression. Thus, the organizational framework meets the requirements for a Band 6.0.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student displays an adequate vocabulary range for the task, attempting some less common lexical items such as 'innovations', 'contributes efficiently', and 'professional development'. However, there are notable word choice and collocation errors throughout the text, such as 'have a significant influence' instead of 'has', 'forefathers efforts' lacking an apostrophe, and awkward phrasing like 'sector's economy'. Furthermore, the phrase 'hold a strong believe' contains a grammatical word-class error. Despite these inaccuracies, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meaning without impeding overall communication, corresponding to a Band 6.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over structure. However, the text contains frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement and prepositional use. Examples include 'education have' instead of 'has', 'when the students have well understanding' instead of 'a good understanding', and 'all online resources have accessible to them they can be used these resources'. Additionally, punctuation and article usage are occasionally faulty. While these errors do not impede overall comprehension, their frequency prevents the grammar score from reaching a higher band. Therefore, a Band 5.5 is awarded.
