Student answer (Band 5.5)
The importance of school subjects is still a major discussion in society. Some stated that history is one of the most essential subjects at school, while others argue that science and technology are more crucial to study in the present years. To look further into the arguments, this essay will discuss both perspectives
History is very important for students those who wanted to leran that how his country become on the map of world. Some peoples says that history is very neccessary in all schools of because those who said this they are all love history and they wanted his children also read the history and get all information about his country and his old commender cheif of army and they also wanted to know about her hero of history. for instance, Indonesian students learn Indonesian history to know about his country and the stuggle of her hero history. which makes the students acknowledge Indonesia’s identity and ignite the spirit of nationalism.
On the other hand, some people says that science and technology are very neccessary than history. Because they think that today in modern era science are very useful in every part of life. They says that in this modern era technology and science are major subjet for learn because today we need to learn science rather than history. For example, students are required to know the basic formulas from a machine learning class. Therefore, it is necessary for students to learn applied science.
To summarize both viewpoints, some assert that history is one of the most essential subjects for the reason of understanding the nation’s identity, while others think that applied science is far more crucial since technology is advancing in this modern era. I assert that classes related to science and machinery learning are vital since knowing how technology works is one of the basic things that student needs to learn.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views—the importance of history versus science and technology—and provides a clear personal opinion in the introduction and conclusion. Ideas are supported with relevant examples, such as Indonesian students learning about local history and the necessity of machine learning formulas in applied science. However, the development of ideas leans towards repetition and over-generalisation in places, particularly in the body paragraphs where sentences echo the same underlying premise without deeper extension. The position is maintained throughout the essay, meeting the requirements for a Band 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, two distinct body paragraphs, and a concluding summary. Paragraphing is utilised appropriately to separate the two opposing viewpoints. However, the logical progression is at times hindered by mechanical and repetitive cohesive devices, such as the frequent reliance on 'some people says' and 'because'. Referencing is also occasionally unclear or imprecise, such as pronoun shifts in the second paragraph ('his country', 'her hero'). While the essay is clearly structured, these cohesive flaws place it securely at Band 6.0.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'nationalism', 'applied science', and 'modern era'. However, there are numerous word choice, collocation, and form errors throughout the text, such as 'leran' for learn, 'commender cheif', 'stuggle', and 'machinery learning'. While these errors are frequent, they do not severely impede overall communication because the context remains discernible. This performance aligns well with the Band 5.0 descriptors, showing a limited but minimally adequate range with noticeable lexical errors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, though attempts at complex structures are frequently marred by grammatical errors. There are persistent mistakes in subject-verb agreement, such as 'Some stated... while others argue', 'some people says', and 'science are very useful'. Punctuation and article usage also show regular lapses, for instance missing articles before singular nouns ('in modern era' instead of 'in the modern era'). The errors are frequent and cause some difficulty for the reader, but because basic meaning is generally communicated, the response meets the criteria for Band 5.0.
