Student answer (Band 6.0)
There is an ongoing debate about whether schools should prioritize teaching history or focus more heavily on science and technology in the modern world. Many countries around the globe have never reached to the decision of prioritizing one of them because according to those both should be considered important and some other countries have selected only one of them in their curriculum.
Many theorists and Journalists in Norway came up with a theory and reasons explaining the importance of both technology subjects and historical subjects. Their theory explained that it is important to understand a child brain. The child brain takes more interest in the history subjects rather than the science subjects. They also stated that, now a days technology is making its place in every part of the world however coming education and children should also know the significance of the technology so that they can be an active part of this revolution. In India, major laws were implemented by the state named the state of Maharashtra. This law clearly states that in every school of India, children should be given enough knowledge of Information technology and science studies also, they eliminated the history subjects and marked them optional. There are many other countries having different laws for yearly curriculum of the school students but more than 60% countries across the globe are prioritizing science subjects over historical subjects.
In my opinion, the importance of technology related subjects is higher since the world is changing itself rapidly, everything is updating and evolving only with the help of technology and also with the power of science.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views—the importance of history versus science and technology—and provides a clear personal opinion in the final paragraph. However, the development of ideas lacks depth and relies on vague generalizations and unsubstantiated claims, such as 'Many theorists and Journalists in Norway came up with a theory' and 'more than 60% countries across the globe are prioritizing science subjects.' The position is stated, but the supporting arguments are not fully extended with strong reasoning or relevant personal experiences as requested in the prompt. This places the response comfortably at Band 6, as it covers the task requirements adequately despite some under-developed ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay displays a logical overall progression, moving from an introduction to a discussion of both views, and concluding with the writer's opinion. Paragraphing is utilized, though the second body paragraph is overly dense and contains multiple disparate ideas that would have been better served by separation into smaller paragraphs. Cohesive devices are used, but sometimes in a mechanical or repetitive fashion, such as 'Many theorists...', 'Their theory explained...', and 'They also stated that...'. Additionally, referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly when introducing specific regional examples without sufficient contextual linkage. Overall, the organization meets the criteria for Band 6.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the student to communicate their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary items, such as 'prioritize', 'curriculum', and 'significance', but these are accompanied by noticeable word-choice inaccuracies and awkward collocations, such as 'never reached to the decision', 'child brain takes more interest', and 'coming education'. Spelling is generally accurate, but limitations in lexical range and precision prevent the response from achieving a higher band. The vocabulary is sufficient for communication, fitting the descriptor for Band 6.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, including relative clauses ('subjects like Science and technology are more important than History') and conditional/temporal elements. However, grammatical errors are frequent throughout the text, such as missing articles ('the child brain', 'in every school of India'), awkward preposition usage ('reached to the decision'), and run-on sentences with comma splices, such as in the second sentence of the first paragraph. While these errors do not severely impede overall communication, they reduce the proportion of error-free sentences, aligning the grammar with a Band 5.5 or a solid Band 6 performance.
