Student answer (Band 5.5)
Secondary education plays crucial role in students development. Some individuals believe that History is one of the important subject while others argued that in the modern world science and technology plays vital role. I will discuss both views in this essay before my opinion.
To commence with, there are numerous supportive points related to History. The most prominent point is, understanding the past. To explain it, history is one of the main subject which help students to learn about past. Moreover, not only students learn about past events but also gain knowledge about how individuals live in countryside. For example, individuals can understand the consequences of past decisions and avoid repeating mistakes. Therefore, it teaches students about traditional culture and heritage.
On the other hand, there are several informative points about new technology and science. Nowadays, science is the most important subject because it teaches important values and skills. In addition, technology develops new job opportunities and problem solving skills. For example, with the help of technology it helps in hospitals to find diseases like AIDS, CANCER and so on. Therefore it also provides help in education system, with the help of science scientist find new medicines and discover new experiments.
In my opinion, both subjects are importants for students developments like history teachs past events and previous generations but science tell us about new technology, new machines and it helps in hospitals and education departments.
In conclution, after taking all the aspects into consideration, I would like to emphasize that it has some valid points. Although history plays vital role to teach us about wars, wrong decisions. I believe that with the help of technology it increase country economic developments and discovers new experiments and develop medicines.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both the importance of history and the value of science and technology, while also presenting a personal opinion. However, the ideas remain somewhat limited and under-developed, which prevents the essay from reaching a higher level. For instance, the discussion of history mentions understanding the past and avoiding mistakes, but these points are stated rather than fully extended with deep reasoning or specific real-world examples. Similarly, the arguments for science and technology rely heavily on general statements about finding diseases like cancer and creating jobs, without deeply exploring how these shape modern society. The position is clear throughout the essay, but the overall development of ideas sits comfortably within the partially addressed expectations of this band.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay demonstrates some overall organization with a clear paragraph structure, using introductory and concluding paragraphs alongside distinct body paragraphs for each view. However, there is a lack of clear overall progression, and the logical flow between sentences can feel slightly disjointed. Cohesive devices are used, but they are sometimes mechanical or repetitive, such as the frequent reliance on 'To commence with', 'Moreover', and 'For example'. Additionally, referencing is occasionally unclear, as seen in the conclusion where phrases like 'it has some valid points' lack a precise antecedent. While the writing is coherent enough to follow, the management of cohesive devices and progression remains basic rather than smooth.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The writer uses a limited but minimally adequate range of vocabulary suitable for discussing school subjects and technology. There are noticeable errors in word choice, collocation, and word formation that draw attention, such as 'important subject' instead of 'important subjects', 'informations' if used or missing plurals, and awkward phrasing like 'country economic developments'. Spelling is generally acceptable for common words, but the presence of persistent errors and a restricted lexical scope mean that the vocabulary struggles to convey precise meanings smoothly. The range is sufficient to communicate the basic points, but the frequent lexical inaccuracies restrict the score to this level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The text displays a very limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences alongside basic attempts at complex clauses. These attempts at complex structures are frequently faulty, marred by frequent errors in grammar, subject-verb agreement, and articles. Examples include 'History is one of the important subject' (noun pluralisation and article omission), 'science and technology plays' (agreement error with compound subjects), and 'history teachs' (verb form error). Punctuation and phrasing errors occur often throughout the response and can cause some difficulty for the reader, although the core meaning of the sentences usually remains retrievable. The grammar control reflects basic sentence-building efforts with persistent flaws.
