Student answer (Band 5.5)
Some people believe that History is a crucial subject for students while others argue that scietific subjects deserve more attention. I believe that, to flourish in this modern world, knowledge anout science and technology is undeniably the only way but it should not replace history, as it helps us stay connected to our roots.
Science and technology is a fluorishing subject as it allows the students to explore their creativity and create something meaningful. The job sectors related to the scientific field is vast so it gives the students more options to select their career path. This allows the youth to stay ahead in this modern competitive world. For instance, students studying science train their brain in such a way that they are more adapted to the current world.
On the other hand, history and art related subjects helps the students to stay connected to their roots where they can learn about civilization and evolution. This knowledge is also important as it is impossible to succeed in the future without learning about the past.
In conclusion, science and technology must be focused in school

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response only partially addresses the task and suffers from a critical length issue, as it contains only 184 words, falling significantly short of the 250-word minimum. While you attempted to discuss both views regarding history and scientific subjects and gave a brief opinion, the ideas remain limited and under-developed. For instance, your assertion that science gives students more career options is stated without sufficient extension or concrete support. Your position is partially discernible at the beginning and end, but the abrupt conclusion, 'In conclusion, science and technology must be focused in school,' leaves the discussion incomplete and fails to properly synthesise the arguments. To reach a higher band, you must write at least 250 words and fully develop your arguments with clear explanations and relevant examples.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
There is some basic organisation in the essay, with an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a concluding sentence, but there is no clear overall progression throughout the text. Cohesive devices are used minimally and sometimes mechanically. For example, you use 'On the other hand' to signal the contrasting view, which helps guide the reader, but the lack of further transitional phrases makes the connections between sentences feel disjointed. Paragraphing is attempted, but the final paragraph is incomplete and acts merely as a single-sentence conclusion rather than a fully realised summary. To improve, you need to ensure logical sequencing from one paragraph to the next and use a wider range of cohesive devices naturally to connect your ideas smoothly.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
Your vocabulary range is limited but minimally adequate to convey your basic message. You make several noticeable spelling and word-choice errors that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader, such as 'scietific' instead of 'scientific', 'fluorishing' instead of 'flourishing', and 'anout' instead of 'about'. Phrases like 'history and art related subjects helps' also demonstrate issues with word form and agreement. While you attempt some less common vocabulary items such as 'civilization' and 'evolution', the presence of frequent spelling slips and slightly unnatural collocations restricts your score. To achieve a higher band, you should expand your range of vocabulary, ensure accurate spelling, and use precise word forms and collocations consistently throughout your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You demonstrate a limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences alongside a few basic attempts at complex forms. Your writing contains frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that can cause some difficulty for the reader. For example, there are subject-verb agreement issues, such as 'The job sectors related to the scientific field is vast', where the plural subject does not match the singular verb. Additionally, minor errors occur in articles and prepositions within grammatical patterns, such as 'train their brain in such a way that they are more adapted to the current world'. To move up to a higher band, you need to incorporate a wider variety of complex sentence structures and improve your grammatical accuracy so that the majority of your sentences are error-free.
