Overall5.5

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both history and science/technology while giving an opinion, but the ideas remain limited and under-developed throughout. For instance, the discussion on how history helps students understand traditions and how science improves health lacks sufficient expansion or specific examples beyond brief mentions. Furthermore, the response is significantly under length, containing only 195 words against the required 250-word minimum, which heavily restricts the depth of the arguments presented.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The text displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to structure the essay into distinct introduction, body, and conclusion paragraphs. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical. The writing lacks essential cohesive devices to smoothly link sentences and ideas together, and referencing is occasionally unclear. Paragraphing is present, but the abrupt transitions between sentences indicate that the organizational framework needs greater control and more sophisticated linking words to achieve a higher band.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey basic points about education and subjects. There are notable spelling errors and word-choice issues, such as 'considerd', 'beleive', 'chnages', 'mwdicines', and 'alse', which stem from a lack of control over common terms. The student attempts some less common vocabulary, but these lexical errors and restricted range prevent the response from demonstrating the precision required for higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response shows a limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences alongside a few basic complex attempts. There are frequent errors in punctuation, capitalization, articles, and verb forms, such as starting sentences with lowercase letters ('it is also helps'), missing articles ('use internet', 'a equal education'), and incorrect subject-verb agreement or tense usage ('science helpd', 'history should not be ignored.both areas'). These frequent mechanical and grammatical errors can cause some difficulty for the reader.
