Student answer (Band 5.5)

Many people say that History is one of the most important subject in schools. while others think that in present days Science and Technology are most important subjects than History. In essay we will discuss both views with an opinion.

In today's time many people think History is one of the most important subject in schools because new generation learn about there Culture and Religious activities. For example in India there are 27 States with different Culture and Religion so if new generation read History books so he or she can express there point of views about there Culture and Religion. Also few states in india for example Panjab, Rajasthan and Himachal History is simmilar with few twists so if an student learn about history so they know every points related to there culture and religion.

On the other hand, few people think that in today's time Science and Technology are most important subjects than History because world is developing day by day so if new generation learn about Science and Technology so they are able to use new technology and machine without any problem. People of this side think History is past which don't play any important role in today's time so Reading History is waste of time in schools.

In my opinion, i Belive that Science and Technology should be compulsory in schools because this help people to think about new machines and technology for use to make life easy also Science and Technology is beneficial for students related to Non Medical because they learn new things. But i think History is also important because People's know about there freedom fighters through History but history should be optional not compulsory.

In conclusion, Science and Technology is most important in today's time because world is developing day by day so Science and Technology help people to know about new technology but History also speaks truth of past time so it is also be optional.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views on the importance of History versus Science and Technology and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the ideas are somewhat limited and under-developed, keeping the response at this level. For instance, the discussion on culture and religion in India relies on repetitive listing rather than deep exploration. While the position is visible, the supporting arguments lack extension and tend to over-generalise, such as the claim that reading history is simply a waste of time for those focused on development. To move to a higher level, the writer needs to fully develop each viewpoint with more nuanced reasoning and robust supporting evidence rather than surface-level assertions.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear paragraph structure, using standard introductory, body, and concluding sections. Progression is visible as the writer moves logically from discussing History, to Science and Technology, and finally to a personal conclusion. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical and repetitive, particularly with transitional phrases like 'In today's time many people think' and 'On the other hand'. Referencing is occasionally unclear, as seen in pronoun usage ('so he or she can express there point of views'). Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate the distinct themes, but to achieve a higher level, the writer must employ a more flexible and varied range of cohesive devices without relying on repetitive formulas.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is minimally adequate for the task, providing enough range to communicate basic arguments about school subjects. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'developing day by day' and 'freedom fighters', but this is accompanied by noticeable spelling and word choice errors, including 'subject' instead of 'subjects', 'Religious' instead of 'religion', 'simmilar', and 'Belive'. These errors reflect a limited control over word forms and spelling. To reach a higher standard, the writer needs to expand their lexical repertoire with precise, less common items and ensure correct spelling and collocation throughout the text.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writing demonstrates a limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences joined by coordinating conjunctions or repetitive dependent clauses. Attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty, such as in run-on sentences like 'so if new generation learn about Science and Technology so they are able to use new technology...'. There are frequent errors in articles, plurals, subject-verb agreement, and capitalization, such as 'an student', 'People's know', and lowercase 'india'. These grammatical lapses can occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. To improve, the writer must incorporate a wider variety of complex grammatical structures with accurate punctuation and consistent control over basic agreement and tense rules.
