Student answer (Band 6.0)

History is considered as one of the vital subjects in educational institutions by some people, however others argued that advanced courses such as science and technology are crucial in this modern world. While there are valid arguments on both sides, I believe that stem subjects should be given priority rather than simply relying on history.

On the one hand, supporters of history subject think that studying this subject may bring traditional and cultural awareness among the students. For example, if a student is interested in the past events and historical places, then it may be beneficial for them to study this course. As a result, he will be more intrigued when he will come across that event or place in real life.

On the other hand, those who prefer stem subjects than history believe that students should be ready to cope what might come in the future because technology is advancing each day. For example, if a person is studying courses that are relared to Artificial Intelligence and machine learning, then he might be prepared, even if the innovation became more advanced. Consequently, he had the basic knowledge which might assist them in solving complex issues in the related field. In my view, Although history subject can provide significant knowledge, I still think that learning about stem courses is a better choice.

In conclusion, those who prefer history might wanted for students to learn about the culture and past traditions, whereas others think that an individual should be updated with digital innovatitions by studying stem courses. I think, history subjects should also given a chance just to get familiar with historical events, stem might help anyone understanding the regular updated in this contemporary world.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both perspectives and state a clear preference for science and technology in the introduction and again in the body. The history paragraph gives a relevant reason—cultural and traditional awareness—and the STEM paragraph explains how learning about AI and machine learning could prepare students for future developments. These points answer the question, but they are not equally developed: the history example remains hypothetical and its benefit is not explained in much depth, while the STEM example is more specific. Your conclusion also introduces a less clear qualification that history “should also given a chance,” which makes the final position harder to interpret. Develop each side with a fuller explanation or concrete example, and make the conclusion restate your preference consistently.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. Signposts such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the discussion, and the ideas generally progress in a logical order. This meets the lower-band expectation for coherent arrangement and shows some features of stronger organisation. However, transitions can feel mechanical, and the final sentence joins contrasting ideas in a way that obscures their relationship. References such as “he” and “them” also shift in number, making it less clear who is being discussed. Use more varied links between ideas and ensure pronouns and concluding statements refer clearly to the intended point.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a reasonable range of topic-related vocabulary, including “cultural awareness,” “advancing,” “Artificial Intelligence,” and “complex issues.” These choices make the main discussion understandable and show an attempt to use more specific language than basic everyday terms. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “prefer STEM subjects than history,” “cope what might come,” and “regular updated.” There are also spelling errors, including “relared” and “innovititions,” which reduce the accuracy of the vocabulary. Aim for natural combinations and check spelling carefully; for example, use “prefer STEM subjects to history” and “keep up with regular updates.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including conditional structures such as “if a student is interested…” and clauses introduced by “while” and “because.” This gives the response some structural variety, and the main ideas are generally understandable. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly with verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence punctuation. Examples include “those who prefer STEM subjects … believe” followed later by “he had,” “history subjects should also given a chance,” and the comma splice in “I think, history subjects…”. The sentence “when he will come across” also uses an unsuitable future form after “when.” Review tense consistency, passive constructions, and punctuation, while continuing to practise complex sentences.
