Student answer (Band 6.5)
In today's world that is characterized by rapid growth and advancements, subjects of science and technology are essential, beacuse of various research breakthroughs and discoveries. However, the subject of history is also important, as it provides knowledge on cultural heritage in the past. In my opinion, both the subjects are essential, as an individual can enhance their wisdom on science as well as history for their overall development.
History has been a part of a school subject since many years. It is significant, as it provides insights into different political methods across different timelines, various cultural practices among different religions, millitary practices among distinct kings, and so on. This subject plays a crucial role on providing broad range of information on various fields of past practices such as politics, wars, medicine, agriculture, etc. For instance, in India, the chapter of Rani Lakshmibai has major impact on female students, as it motivates them to fight for their own rights without any fear.
On the other hand, science and technology also play a significant role on an individual. Although the subjects of maths and physics are difficult for some people, these are essential, as most of the phenomenas are linked with our routine life. Whatever happens in the nature, it occurs for a reason and scientists work in order to discover that mechanism. For instance, in our daily life, experiecning a sudden jurk on a brake of a bus, calculating speed, breathing, etc are a part of science syllabus. In order to familarize children with these activities, it is required to explain their theory in textbooks.
In summary, both the subjects have a significant influence on the overall growth of students. In my opinion, history is important, as it provides insights into past practices and act as a way of motivation for many students at the present time. Additionally, science is significant, as it teaches the mechanisms involved in our daily lives and also provide information on recent discoveries and innovations.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address both sides of the discussion and state a clear position: “both the subjects are essential.” The history paragraph gives relevant examples of political and cultural knowledge, and the Rani Lakshmibai example helps show how history can inspire students. The science paragraph also explains its relevance through everyday phenomena. This meets the task well, but the two arguments are not equally developed: the history example is more specific, while the science examples are listed rather than explained in depth. Your conclusion also shifts emphasis towards history, although your stated view is that both subjects matter. To strengthen the response, explain more fully how each subject benefits students and make your final position consistent with the balanced view introduced at the start.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. Transitions such as “However,” “On the other hand,” and “In summary” make the progression easy to follow. Within paragraphs, ideas generally move from a claim to supporting detail, particularly in the history paragraph. Some connections are less smooth, however: the science examples (“a sudden jurk on a brake of a bus, calculating speed, breathing”) are presented as a list without showing how each supports the point. The conclusion repeats earlier claims rather than bringing the comparison together, and “both the subjects” is repeated. Use clearer links between examples and claims, and synthesise the two sides in the final paragraph for more flexible cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “cultural heritage,” “political methods,” “mechanism,” and “discoveries and innovations.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, and you attempt some less common expressions. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “plays a crucial role on providing,” “major impact on female students,” and “sudden jurk on a brake.” There are also spelling errors, including “beacuse,” “millitary,” “experiecning,” and “familarize.” These do not prevent understanding, but they reduce precision and control. Aim for natural collocations and proofread spelling; for example, use “plays a crucial role in providing” and “a sudden jolt when a bus brakes.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including subordinate clauses beginning “as” and “Although,” and most of the message remains clear. Some grammatical errors persist, particularly with agreement, articles, prepositions, and plural forms. For example, “science and technology also play a significant role on an individual” has an incorrect preposition, while “the phenomenas are linked” uses an incorrect plural form. In the conclusion, “history … act” and “science … provide” do not agree with their singular subjects. The opening phrase “since many years” also needs a different time expression. Review subject–verb agreement and common grammatical patterns, and check each sentence for accurate articles and prepositions. This would improve accuracy while preserving your range of structures.
