Student answer (Band 6.0)

According to one school of thought history is the most important subject in a school's syllabus while other thinks it is not much beneficial to a student compare to other science subjects. In this essay i will discuss both point of views and also provide my own opinion.

On the first hand, some people says history is one of the most important subject because every student must know the historical events that occurs on Earth from which once can learn a lot. Moreover, it is crucial to learn hystory so that it can be passed down in generations to keep it alive. For instance a student that learns hystory would be more intelligent as it gains the knowlege of the past and also can learn from the mistakes people made before.

On the other hand, people says instead of hystory students should learn science subjects in this era of technology. To become successful in life a person must adapt the modern technology. For example nowdays the world is developing in a fast pace so to survive in it a person must run along with it through the knowlege of technology and science. Furthermore, students learning science can also contribute a lot to this word by developing modern needs.

In my opinion learning science and technology is more important nowdays than hystory because it is very important to learn science and adapt technology to survive in practical life yet complete ignorance to hystory is also not acceptable as it taught students about the past.

In conclusion, science and technology are the most important fields nowdays but students must know important moments of the past too.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both perspectives and state a clear opinion: you argue that science and technology are more important today, while history should not be ignored. Relevant reasons include learning from past mistakes and adapting to modern technology. However, some points are asserted rather than fully explained. For example, saying that a student who studies history “would be more intelligent” does not clarify how historical knowledge develops useful understanding or judgement. The science argument also relies on broad claims about surviving in a fast-developing world, with little specific support. To strengthen the response, explain the practical benefits of each subject in more detail and include a concrete example, such as a historical lesson or a technology-related career.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, your opinion, and a conclusion. The progression is easy to follow, and signposts such as “On the other hand,” “In my opinion,” and “In conclusion” make the argument’s direction clear. This logical organisation is a strength. However, some linking is formulaic, and ideas within paragraphs could be connected more precisely. For instance, the claim that history should be passed down “to keep it alive” is followed by a point about intelligence and learning from mistakes without explaining the relationship between them. Use references and transitions that show how each supporting point develops the main idea, rather than relying mainly on standard paragraph-opening phrases.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “historical events,” “modern technology,” “science subjects,” and “practical life.” There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “one school of thought” and “contribute.” However, the range is limited and several word-choice, collocation, and spelling problems make the writing less natural. Examples include “run along with it,” “developing in a fast pace,” and repeated misspellings such as “hystory” and “knowlege.” Some expressions are also vague, including “modern needs.” Build a wider set of accurate academic collocations and check spelling carefully; this will make your ideas clearer and more precise.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “a student that learns history” and a contrastive structure in “yet complete ignorance … is also not acceptable.” The overall meaning is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors remain. Subject–verb agreement is inconsistent in “other thinks” and “some people says,” while “every student must know … events that occurs” also has agreement problems. There are issues with articles and sentence construction, for example “in a school's syllabus” and “to survive in it a person must run along with it.” Capitalisation and punctuation are not consistently controlled, particularly the lowercase “i” and missing commas after introductory phrases. Review agreement, articles, and punctuation, then edit complex sentences for clarity.
