Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is often argued that the history is one of the most crucial school subject. While other individuals believe that in today's era with acceleration of modern technology, subjects like science and technology are more significant than history. This essay will address both views and ultimately give my personal opinion.
To embark on, there are plethora of reasons why a couple of humans claim that the history is important school subject. The primary and the foremost one is, history assist to preserve country's traditional and cultural heritage. To describe more, learning history in schools opportunities for students to know about their culture and what happened in the past. For example, learners can grab knowledge about struggle of freedom fighters and their lives to accomplish independence. Additionally, history is the subject from which children can learn about ancient civilization, birth and lives of gurus, world wars and many more fascinating stories.
On the flip side, some people opine that subjects like science and technology are more vital than history as science helps us in every aspect of life. The mobile phones, laptop, automatic vehicles and many more technological appliances we use today is just because of science and technology. These subjects make our life convenient. For instance, doctors use robotic machines for surgeries in order to achieve great success. Moreover, learning institutes use smart classes to encourage more students. Furthermore, pupils can take online classes on their smartphones. As a result, it saves commuting time.
To sum up, history and subjects such as science and technology both are important because they provide different types of knowledge. However, in my perspective, science is more vital than history as it makes our life straight forward and provides us enormous technological gadgets.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address both sides of the discussion and state a clear opinion: history preserves cultural knowledge, while science and technology improve daily life, and you ultimately favour science. The examples of freedom fighters, ancient civilisations, robotic surgery and online classes are relevant. However, the two positions are not developed equally: the history paragraph mainly lists topics students can learn, while the science paragraph explains practical benefits more fully. Your conclusion repeats your preference but does not explain why these benefits should outweigh history’s contribution. To strengthen the response, explain the significance of each example and make the comparison behind your final judgement more explicit.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a concluding opinion. The progression from the value of history to the practical benefits of science is easy to follow, and signposts such as “On the flip side” and “To sum up” help guide the reader. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some flexibility in linking ideas. However, several transitions feel formulaic, including “To describe more,” “Additionally,” and “Furthermore,” and the list of science examples could be connected more explicitly to the central claim. Use fewer stock connectors and make the relationship between each example and your argument clearer.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “cultural heritage,” “ancient civilization,” “robotic machines,” and “commuting time.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, and you attempt some less common expressions. However, several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “a couple of humans,” “learning history in schools opportunities,” and “life straight forward.” There is also some repetition of “subjects” and “science and technology.” Aim for more natural academic phrasing and check collocations and word forms; for example, describe history as helping students understand their heritage rather than saying it “assist to preserve” it. These issues do not prevent the reader from understanding your argument.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use both simple and complex sentence forms, including a contrast clause beginning “While other individuals believe…” and a reason clause with “as science helps us…”. Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors occur in articles, agreement, and sentence construction. For example, “the history” and “school subject” need more accurate article and number choices; “history assist” should have subject–verb agreement; and “the appliances we use today is” has a plural subject with a singular verb. The sentence “learning history in schools opportunities for students” is also missing a grammatical verb structure. Review agreement and article use, and check that each sentence has a complete, correctly formed clause.
