Student answer (Band 5.5)

Some folks have this opinion of History as one of the most important school subjects, while others think that in present world subjects related to Science and technology are highly significant and should be more focused on than History.

Studying History of our countries, states, the heirachy of buildling the law, the sacrifices our forefathers have done for the freedom that came into being. The knowledge pupil attain from History make them a patriot, shapes them into becoming a better civilian and guides them how to make their way through times of despair in one's country. It is somewhat important to study and acknowledge the basics of History as it is to study Science and technology.

To keep ourselves in pace with this fast paced world, studying science, its fundamentals and laws is also important as the laws of state. To build a career in modern world, working in

innovative settings make a future of tomorrow bright and convenient for mankind than merely focusing on history. For example; in our village we have people with merely history literature review, they have made their way in academics and politics. We also have scientists and technologists, having known what normal folks don't, those that made their way out of villiage, in big cities solving modern problems and gaps, making everyones lives easier, and faster

If we make a one on one comparison on which subjects are more important and my preference is with science. As modern problems need modern solutions and a brain to fill the gaps. This will be only possible if students are familier with basics of science and technology.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You discuss both perspectives and state a clear preference for science and technology in the final paragraph. The reasons for valuing History—understanding national struggles, developing civic identity, and learning from difficult periods—are relevant, while the contrast with modern problem-solving also addresses the other view. However, some points are asserted rather than fully explained. For instance, the village example mentions people succeeding in academics and politics and scientists moving to cities, but does not clearly show how this comparison supports the relative importance of the subjects. The claim that History helps pupils become better citizens could also be illustrated or developed further. Explain each side with a specific, clearly connected example and make your comparison more explicit.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, a paragraph on History, a paragraph on science and technology, and a concluding preference. This gives the reader an overall route through the discussion. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow, particularly in the long village example, where several ideas are joined without clear links. The opening sentence of the History paragraph is also a fragment, which interrupts the flow. Some connections, such as “To keep ourselves in pace,” signal a shift, but the relationship between the examples and the main argument is not always clear. Use complete topic sentences, divide long sentences, and add explicit links explaining how each example supports the point.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You attempt a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “fundamentals,” “innovative settings,” “modern problems,” and “sacrifices,” which helps convey the main ideas. There are also some imprecise or unnatural choices that make parts of the argument less clear, such as “the heirachy of buildling the law,” “history literature review,” and “make a future of tomorrow bright.” Spelling errors such as “villiage,” “familier,” and “everyones” are noticeable, and some phrases are repeated or vague, including “modern world” and “made their way.” Aim for accurate, natural collocations and more precise wording. For example, describe historical events and institutions directly, and specify what scientific advances improve rather than relying on broad claims.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You use both simple statements and attempts at longer, more complex sentences, including the contrast introduced by “while” and the conditional structure “If we make a one on one comparison.” However, several sentences are incomplete or structurally unclear. “Studying History of our countries…” has no main verb, and “To build a career in modern world, working in innovative settings make…” has an unclear subject and agreement problem. In “The knowledge pupil attain…,” the verb does not agree with its subject, and the sentence shifts between “them” and “one’s.” Punctuation also needs attention, especially the semicolon after “For example.” Build each sentence around a clear subject and verb, then check agreement, articles, and pronoun consistency.
