Student answer (Band 6.5)

Education plays a primary role in children development and therefore it is considered a must to every child but there is an ongoing debate about which subjects are most important and how to design an interdisciplinary curriculum. Many individuals believe that History is the most crucial school subject while others opine that Science and technology are more important in the contemporary times as it is the world of scientific developments. Although Scientific knowledge is significant, I believe a well-balanced curriculum is important

On the one hand, subjects such as Science and computer are mandatory because every field require scientific knowledge from agriculture to medicine and teaching. If children would not have knowledge of Science, they would not be able to perform at their workplaces. For example, someone who studied Literature to be a teacher is required to know how to use latest technology such as Artificial Intelligence to prepare lesson plans.Similarly, a farmer needs to know how to use certain pesticides, fertilizers and machinery to grow and harvest crops. Moreover, if children do not learn Science they would not be able to understand basic scientific phenomenon that affect our everyday life.

However, incorporating History in classroom and lesson plans is important because it gives children insight to their cultural and traditional values. When students study history they learn to know about historical facts and what shaped their thinking. It enables students to understand current events and analyze past errors through which students develop critical thinking.

In conclusion, although scientific knowledge is crucial to learn about modern discoveries, history is equally important and should be taught to every child so that they can learn about their culture, heritage and norms.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address both perspectives and give a clear overall view: the conclusion says History is “equally important” and should be taught to every child. The examples about a teacher using AI and a farmer using machinery make the case for Science and technology relevant, while the discussion of cultural values and learning from past errors explains History’s value. This meets the task well, but the two sides are not developed equally: the Science paragraph has concrete examples, whereas the History paragraph makes broader claims without a specific illustration. The opening also promises a “well-balanced curriculum,” but this position could be explained more precisely. Develop the historical argument with an example and clarify how the curriculum should balance the subjects.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. “On the one hand” and “However” help signal the shift between perspectives, and the examples generally follow the claims they support. The progression is coherent, though some links are mechanical or the relationships between ideas could be clearer. For instance, “Similarly” introduces the farmer example, but it adds another illustration rather than a closely parallel point; a more precise connector would make the relationship explicit. The opening sentence is also lengthy and combines several ideas before the essay’s position is fully stated. Use clearer topic sentences and more deliberate links between claims, explanations, and examples to make the progression smoother.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.5

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “interdisciplinary curriculum,” “scientific developments,” “cultural and traditional values,” and “critical thinking.” These choices help you discuss both education and the wider effects of studying each subject. There are also some imprecise or unnatural expressions, such as “a must to every child,” “learn to know about historical facts,” and “scientific phenomenon,” which reduce the naturalness of the writing. “Computer” is also less precise than “computing” or “computer science” when naming a school subject. The meaning remains clear, and you attempt some less common vocabulary, but greater control of collocations and word forms would improve precision. Prefer familiar, accurate academic phrasing over expressions that sound translated.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex forms, including conditional sentences (“If children would not have knowledge of Science…”) and a subordinate clause beginning “although.” Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “children development” needs a possessive form, “every field require” has subject–verb disagreement, and “a farmer needs to know” contrasts with the plural subject in the surrounding generalisation. The conditional “If children would not have knowledge” is not the standard form for this hypothetical meaning; use “If children did not have knowledge…” Also, the introduction ends without a full stop, and there is no space after the full stop in “lesson plans.Similarly.” Check agreement, articles, conditional forms, and sentence punctuation carefully. More consistently accurate complex sentences would strengthen control.
