Student answer (Band 6.5)

Some people consider History as an important subject to be taught in schools while other's think that subjects such as Science and technology have more importance in modern day world. In my opinion, History is a valuable subject, but in today's world Science and technology are more important as compared to History.

People, who consider History as one of the important subjects want their children to learn about the culture and historical events. History of a country carries the sacrifices of national heros and details about some of the great inventions. People have huge respect for those heroes and they want their future generations to carry the same respect. For example, the Right brothers who first made an aeroplane carry a huge respect and honour in everyone's heart. So, people think that this knowledge of history must be passed down to the new generations.

On ther hand, there are some people who believe Science and technology are the most important subjects in today's world. The world is rapidly advancing in the field of science as well as technology.People want their children to learn the modern technology for their better future. There is a great competetion among technology experts.Everyday new discoveries are being made in science. For example, artificial intelligence is taking world to another level with its chatbots such as ChatGpt, Grok, Gemini and other tools. In addition, robots are being trained to perform surgries and other human tasks. People want their children to be a part of this advancing field so that they can achieve their future goals.

I also think science and technology are most important subjects to achieve success in this advanced world. Students should focus on these subjects to learn the modern techniques and tools.

In conclusion, History carries the values of a nation and it is important for new generations to learn about their culture and give honour to their heroes, but more focus should be on the modern world subjects like science and technology.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address both views and state a consistent opinion: History has value, but Science and technology matter more in the modern world. The discussion of History explains cultural inheritance and respect for national heroes, while the examples of AI and surgical robots support the opposing view. This is a relevant response with a clear position. However, some ideas are more fully explained than others: the historical example of the Wright brothers is linked to honour, but not clearly to why History should be a school subject; similarly, the claim that science leads to success could use a specific explanation or example. Develop these links and compare the subjects more directly to make the argument more fully supported.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The response has a clear overall progression: an introduction presents the two views and your position, separate body paragraphs discuss each side, and the conclusion restates your judgement. Signposting such as “On the other hand,” “For example,” and “In addition” helps readers follow the argument. Paragraphing is appropriate, and the ideas generally move logically from claims to examples. To make the flow more polished, avoid relying on explicit transitions as the main way of linking ideas; connect sentences through clearer references and explanation. For instance, after mentioning the Wright brothers, explain how learning about such achievements helps students understand historical change. Also check spacing after full stops, as missing spaces interrupt the presentation.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “historical events,” “future generations,” “artificial intelligence,” “discoveries,” and “modern techniques.” These choices make the subject matter clear, and some phrases show an attempt to be precise. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or repetitive, such as “carry a huge respect,” “great competetion,” and “taking world to another level.” Spelling slips, including “heros,” “surgries,” and “ther,” also reduce accuracy. Aim for more natural academic phrasing and proofread carefully. More precise terms for the benefits of studying History and the demands of technological change would help you express your ideas with greater flexibility.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including relative clauses (“who first made an aeroplane”) and a contrastive clause in the conclusion (“History carries the values of a nation … but more focus should be…”). Meaning remains clear throughout, and several sentences are controlled. Some grammatical errors persist, however. In the opening, “while other's think” should use the plural “others”; “People, who consider History…” has unnecessary punctuation around the relative clause; and “science and technology are most important subjects” needs an article before “most important.” There are also run-on sentence boundaries in the technology paragraph. Review articles, punctuation, and sentence separation, while continuing to practise varied complex structures.
