Student answer (Band 5.5)

Science and History both are important to study till 10th grade. In this regard, few people say History is most important school subject while others think that in the modern world subjects like Science and technology are more crucial than History. This essay will outline not only both perspectives but also my opinion which is in the favour of latter's point of view in the upcoming paragraphs with a logical conclusion.

At first glance, science and technology are more practical subject than History. Science is not about just chemicals and human anatomy but about environment, stars, birds, animals, trees, atoms are every other possible thing. It is a widespread subject. However Technology gave us laptops, mobile phones, machiens for daily chores. Both Science and technology are interlinked. Both helps us in echnomic growth by providing good carrier options such as doctor, engineer and scientist. For example, Robert brown was the first scientist who discovered 'Nucleus' and it helped a lot in understanding human body and genetics.

Moving ahead, history is not very practical subject still it is important because it is book of past incidents, culture and tradition. History provide us the detailed lifestyle of our ancesstors and world wars. We get to know about the brave people who sacrificed their lives for us by going through history. For example the Bhagat singh who sacrifice his life for the freedom of india.

In conclusion, altough in the modern world science and technology gave us everything which makes our life easy but still it is important to remember our tradition and culture and people who did sacrifices for us.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You discuss both perspectives and state a clear preference for science and technology in the introduction, then acknowledge History’s value in the next paragraph. The examples of scientific discovery and Bhagat Singh are relevant, so the response addresses the main parts of the task. However, the arguments are only partly developed: the benefits of science are listed, but the link between these subjects and wider social or personal outcomes is not explained in depth. The History paragraph mainly describes what it teaches rather than explaining why that knowledge matters today. The conclusion also shifts towards a more balanced view without clearly reaffirming which side you favour. Develop each reason with explanation and make your final position consistent with the introduction.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. This makes the discussion easy to follow, and transitions such as “Moving ahead” signal a change of focus. However, some linking is mechanical or imprecise: “At first glance” does not clearly introduce the argument, and “In this regard” is not a natural connection to the opening claim. The first body paragraph also moves quickly from the scope of science to technology, careers, and an example, without clearly showing how each point connects. Use topic sentences that state each paragraph’s main claim, then organise supporting explanation and examples in a clear sequence. Check that references such as “Both” have an unmistakable antecedent.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “human anatomy,” “genetics,” “tradition,” and “world wars,” which helps communicate the subject matter. However, the range is limited and several word-choice, collocation, and spelling problems make the writing less natural. For example, “more practical subject” and “good carrier options” do not express the intended ideas accurately; “book of past incidents” is also an awkward description of History. Errors such as “machiens,” “echnomic,” and “ancesstors” are noticeable. Aim for precise academic collocations and check spelling carefully. Replacing broad or informal phrases with specific terms will make your arguments clearer and more convincing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt some complex structures, including “not only … but also” in the introduction and a contrast beginning “although” in the conclusion. Meaning is generally recoverable, but the range is limited and errors occur frequently in sentence construction, agreement, articles, and verb forms. For instance, “Both helps us” needs a plural verb, while “History provide us” also has incorrect agreement. “Science and technology are more practical subject” has a number mismatch, and the final sentence beginning “although” is not completed with a properly structured main clause. Several sentences rely on simple lists rather than varied, controlled structures. Practise accurate compound and complex sentences, and proofread each sentence for subject–verb agreement and complete clauses.
