Student answer (Band 6.0)

History is regarded as an important school subject by some individuals while others argue that subjects like Science and Technology are of more value than History. Although learning about past is important, I widely believe focusing on Science and Technology subjects will be more beneficial.

One one hand, history is a valuable subject which keeps our tradition and culture alive. Many events, cultures and customs out ancestors followed and valued are mentioned in history books. By choosing this subject, people may be able to sustain their local traditions and customs. History provides an opportunity to learn from the mistakes made by people in past. We come to know about origin of our cultures and our ancestors. For instance, people following their local customs are more satisfied than those who never read or adopted their history.

On the second hand, value of Science and Technology subjects cannot be overlooked. They provide the foundation to inventations, advancements abd better future aspects. People learning these subjects are able to take part in progress and soverenity of their country. A notable example is, telephones were invented because scientists studied these subjects and now every person around the globe is taking benefit of their invention.

Overall, History as well as Science and Technology subjects have worth and value. It is the necessity which drives the people to choose both subjects. As far as technology and advancement is concerned, interested people choose science and make their name. People choosing history are more inclined towards their roots, so they make sure to learn history.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both sides of the discussion and state a clear preference for Science and Technology in the introduction. The points about preserving traditions and learning from past mistakes are relevant, as is the example of telephones illustrating technological progress. However, some ideas are asserted rather than explained: for example, the claim that people who follow local customs are more satisfied is not clearly linked to studying History. The benefits of Science and Technology are also described broadly, without explaining how they affect people’s lives beyond the telephone example. Your conclusion acknowledges the value of both subjects but does not fully restate why you consider one more beneficial. Develop each main reason with a clearer explanation and a specific supporting example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, one paragraph for each viewpoint, and a conclusion. This makes the overall progression easy to follow, and phrases such as “For instance” help signal an example. However, some linking language is inaccurate or mechanical: “One one hand” and “On the second hand” should be “On the one hand” and “On the other hand.” The final paragraph also shifts between the value of both subjects and people’s individual choices without clearly connecting these points to your stated preference. Improve cohesion by using accurate transitions and making each paragraph’s central point explicit, then link the conclusion directly to the arguments already presented.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of vocabulary, including “tradition and culture,” “foundation,” “advancements,” and “invention,” which helps communicate the topic. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “cannot be overlooked.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unclear, including “keeps our tradition and culture alive,” “future aspects,” and “make their name.” Spelling errors such as “inventations,” “abd,” and “soverenity” also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise, natural combinations and check spelling carefully; for example, describe subjects as supporting “technological progress” rather than “better future aspects.” This would make your ideas clearer and more fluent.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a concession in “Although learning about past is important” and a relative clause in “customs our ancestors followed and valued.” Most sentences remain understandable, and errors rarely prevent the reader from following your main points. Some grammatical inaccuracies persist, however: “learning about past” needs an article, “One one hand” is incorrectly formed, and “people in past” also needs an article. In “History provides an opportunity to learn from the mistakes made by people in past,” the sentence structure is sound, but the article omission affects accuracy. Continue practising articles and standard comparative linking phrases, while varying sentence structures and checking punctuation around examples.
