Student answer (Band 5.5)
It is often argued that History subject is more necessary than other school subjects while some people believe that science and technology have gained more importance than history. I will explain both views with reasons and examples. In my opinion, science and technology are more important subjects because of their advantages in our future.
Firstly, it is often argued that history subject is more important because it gives information about the country past decade. Students should know about wars. Although history gives information about tools that are used in war, students are interested in new techniques. For example, if this subject will diminish from school, new generation may forget about sacrifices of their decendents. Secondly, it also gives information about the kings destiny which is very useful for students to run governament policy if they are interested in politics.
However, some people believe that technology and science should be more important instead of history. It should be necessary because we need skills today. if we have subject like technology, we may approach the top one country. For instance, many equipment is now in our use because of development of technology subjects. Science also beome more crucial for students because it give information about the use of technology. Furthermore, technology is best for practical use while science subject gives theoratical information.
In conclusion, Science and technology subjects are dominant on the history subject nowadays. Because history gives information about past which is not useful in this decade. On the other side, technology and science are more important because it have information of our life survival. Some people think that history subject should be taught in school while others have opposite believe, they are intrested in science and technology.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address both sides of the discussion and state a clear preference for science and technology in the introduction. The history paragraph gives relevant reasons, including learning about wars and past sacrifices, while the science paragraph refers to practical skills and technological development. However, several points are asserted rather than explained: for example, the link between studying kings and being able to “run governament policy” is unclear, and the claim that history is “not useful in this decade” is broad and conflicts with the earlier argument about its value. Develop each main reason with a clearer explanation or a specific example, and make your final position consistent and fully supported.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. Sequencing words such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” “However,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the broad progression. However, connections within paragraphs are sometimes mechanical, and some ideas do not flow clearly from one to the next. For instance, the point about war tools shifts to students’ interest in new techniques without explaining the relationship. The conclusion also repeats both sides rather than bringing the discussion together around your opinion. Use clearer links between claims and examples, and ensure each paragraph develops one central line of reasoning.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “sacrifices,” “development,” “practical use,” and “survival,” so the main subject is generally clear. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “country past decade,” “kings destiny,” and “approach the top one country.” Spelling errors, including “decendents,” “governament,” and “intrested,” also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise phrases that express your intended meaning, such as “the country’s past,” “the decisions of past rulers,” and “become a leading country.” Check spelling and use a wider range of natural academic expressions.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a conditional structure in “if this subject will diminish from school” and a contrast introduced by “Although.” However, complex forms are often inaccurate, and errors in agreement, articles, verb forms, and sentence boundaries occur throughout. Examples include “Science also beome more crucial” and “it give information,” where the verb does not agree with the subject, and “if we have subject,” which is missing an article. Capitalisation after a full stop is also inconsistent, as in “if we have.” Practise accurate present-tense statements and conditional forms, and proofread each sentence for subject–verb agreement and complete punctuation.
