Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is argued that History is considered as one of the most significant school subjects while few individuals give more importance to science and technology these days. Science and technology have its worth as it helps in improving the standards of livings by innovations but History reflects the cultural values that have immense importance in today's world as well.

Science and Technology encourages innovation and brings advancements in different categories of products that can make life easier by increasing the convenience. For example, ev cars are being developed in different parts of the world to prevent pollution that is harmful for human lives while improving the mode of travelling with more advanced cars that are highly convenient. In addition to this, Science and technology improves the living standards as it plays an important part in research and developement that can help in bringing improvements in the medical sector. For instance, covid19 was a deadly virus that spread all over the world causing millions of deaths. IT was later cured by the invention of vaccines that were created after immense research and development. Was it possible if science and technology had no importance?

In contrast to this, history is a highly valuable subject. It gives an identity to the society and helps it by keeping the traditions and cultures alive. For exaple, Hindus are emotionally and mentally attached to their traditions that have some significance around the globe due to the history of their religion. One of the practice is the celebration of holi that encourages all the individuals to come together in decorating the surroundings and setting up festivals where the community have joyful moments that reflects affection and care in the society.

In my opinion, science and technology are more important as it can improve the living conditions of many people than learning about history that have little impact on our lives today.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You discuss both perspectives and state a clear preference for science and technology, supported by relevant examples such as electric cars and vaccine development. The history paragraph also explains how traditions can preserve cultural identity, with Holi as an illustration. This covers the task, but the two sides are not developed equally: the science discussion has several benefits and examples, whereas the case for studying history is mainly about cultural traditions. The final claim that history has “little impact on our lives today” is also broader than the evidence provided and sits uneasily beside your point that it sustains identity. To strengthen the response, explain more directly what students gain from studying historical events and make your comparison more balanced.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph for each viewpoint, and a concluding opinion. Transitions such as “In addition to this” and “In contrast to this” help readers follow the shift between ideas, and examples generally appear in the relevant paragraphs. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some features of stronger progression. However, links between claims and examples are occasionally mechanical, and the rhetorical question “Was it possible if science and technology had no importance?” interrupts the formal flow rather than advancing the argument. Some references are also unclear, such as “it” in the opening and “that” in the final sentence. Use more precise referencing and connect each example explicitly to the point it supports.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “innovations,” “living standards,” “research and development,” “cultural values,” and “traditions.” These choices make the main ideas clear, and you attempt some less common expressions. At times, however, word choice and collocation are inaccurate or repetitive: “standards of livings,” “different categories of products,” and “emotionally and mentally attached” do not sound natural in context. There are also spelling and capitalisation slips, including “developement,” “exaple,” and inconsistent use of “Science and Technology.” These do not prevent understanding, but they limit precision. Aim for more natural academic collocations and check spelling and consistent capitalisation during revision.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “while,” “as,” and “that,” and most of the argument remains understandable. Some grammatical errors occur, particularly with subject–verb agreement and articles: “Science and technology have its worth,” “Science and technology improves,” and “One of the practice is” need correction. The sentence about Holi also shifts between singular and plural agreement (“the community have” and “moments that reflects”). The opening phrase “History is considered as” is not well formed, and the rhetorical question is awkwardly constructed. These errors rarely block meaning, but more consistent agreement and sentence control would improve accuracy. Proofread each sentence by checking its subject and verb.
