Student answer (Band 6.5)

In this revolutionary era of Science and Technology, some people believe that students must be taught about the historical events and personalities in their schools. However, other people think with the advancements in the modern era, our youth should focus more on the technology and Science, which are the demand of the upcoming age, and less on the things that are in the past now.

I am a firm believer of the fact that history is a very vital subject, it is what keeps our youth well aware of their roots. History subject serves different purposes. It acknowledges people about the brave idols of the past, the most revolutionary events of that time period and teaches alot of lessons(consequences of different actions) as well. For example, In Pakistan, students are always taught about how the foundations of Pakistan were laid and how, after so many sacrifices, it came into existence. Being aware of those events make the students value their country and homeland a lot more. Alot of people find their ideal personalities from the history and want to follow their path. Another reason why history is important is because, Students can understand the politics of their country in much better way and can also understand the patterns that were followed in the past. They also understand how strong and powerful socieities are built. How different crisis and catastrophes are handled in a much noble way.

Science and technology, on the other hand, are the demand of future. They are what a person need to fit well in this modern era. As the future demands it, students should have strong knowledge and experience of science. With the upcoming age of AI, it is now really important for the youth to be fimiliar with technology. For instance, alot of young entrepeuneurs today have their own businesses because they understand science and technology well. They used it for their own career building and were successful as well.

In my opinion, both history and science subjects are equally important and should be taught in schools. History helps them have a strong bond with their roots and built morals and principles while science and technology are the need of the upcoming age

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address both sides of the discussion and state a clear position: history and science are “equally important” and should both be taught. The history paragraph is supported with relevant examples, especially Pakistan’s founding and the way historical patterns can help students understand politics. Your explanation of science and technology is also relevant, but it is less fully developed: the example of young entrepreneurs is brief and does not explain specifically how school science or technology prepares them. To move further, develop this side with a concrete example and explain the benefits in more detail. The conclusion restates your view, though it could more clearly synthesise the two arguments.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two perspectives, and a concluding opinion. The progression is easy to follow, and signposts such as “However,” “For example,” and “on the other hand” help distinguish the discussion. Within the history paragraph, you move from national identity to role models and then political understanding, giving the argument a logical sequence. Some links between ideas are less smooth, however: “How different crisis and catastrophes are handled…” is a fragment that interrupts the paragraph’s flow, and the final paragraph ends abruptly rather than fully rounding off the comparison. Use complete sentences and connect related points more deliberately to make cohesion more consistently controlled.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range for the topic, including phrases such as “historical events,” “foundations,” “sacrifices,” “patterns,” and “career building.” These choices communicate the main ideas, and some attempts at more formal vocabulary are evident. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, including “demand of the upcoming age,” “acknowledges people about,” and “brave idols.” Spelling errors such as “socieities,” “fimiliar,” and “entrepeuneurs” also reduce accuracy. Repeated use of “alot” and “important” limits variety. Aim for more natural academic combinations and check spelling carefully; for example, use “informs students about,” “role models,” and “future demands” where appropriate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You attempt both simple and complex structures, including conditional and relative clauses, as in “how, after so many sacrifices, it came into existence” and “people who…”. Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors and punctuation problems persist. The opening sentence of the opinion paragraph joins two independent clauses with only a comma: “I am a firm believer… subject, it is what…”. There are also issues with articles and agreement in “in much better way,” “a person need,” and “Being aware of those events make the students…”. The fragment “How different crisis and catastrophes are handled…” is another structural weakness. Practise sentence boundaries, subject–verb agreement, and article use while retaining your attempts at complex sentences.
