Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You address both views and state a clear preference for science and technology in the introduction and second body paragraph. You also give reasons, such as learning about the past and improving career prospects. However, the discussion is only minimally developed: the history paragraph repeats the idea that stories increase students’ interest, while the career argument is difficult to follow and lacks a specific, clear example. The conclusion does not clearly restate your own position. The response is also 10 words below the required minimum, so there is limited space to develop the arguments. To strengthen the response, explain how each subject benefits students and support each point with a relevant example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has an identifiable introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, and the paragraphs broadly correspond to the two views. Basic signposting such as “Firstly,” “Second,” and “Although” helps readers recognise the structure. However, progression within paragraphs is weak: the history paragraph repeats the point about interest, and the second paragraph moves from careers to countries’ need for technicians without a clear link. Some connectors are used inaccurately or mechanically, particularly “While the other reason” and the final “then.” The conclusion also combines ideas without clearly resolving the discussion. Give each paragraph a clear main point, develop it in a logical sequence, and use linking phrases only where the relationship between ideas is clear.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You use some task-related vocabulary, including “history,” “technology,” “career,” “technicians,” and “scientists,” so the main topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is basic and repetitive, with frequent spelling errors and inaccurate word choices that sometimes make meaning difficult to understand. Examples include “insaltant” for “instance,” “past storeis,” “interst,” and “tecnicians.” Phrases such as “other mostly subject” and “their knowledge is rises” are also unclear or unnatural. Build a reliable set of topic vocabulary and check spelling carefully. Prefer precise expressions such as “historical events,” “develop practical skills,” and “career opportunities,” and avoid repeating “important” when a more specific description is possible.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt a few longer structures, including “when students read the past stories” and “Although there are mixed opinion,” but most sentences rely on simple patterns, and errors are frequent enough to obscure meaning. Subject–verb agreement is often incorrect: “some people says,” “history books is,” and “students reads.” There are also problems with articles, plurals and verb forms, as in “student learn must” and “I completely beleives.” Sentence boundaries and punctuation are unreliable; for example, “and other reason is increase student interst in study. For example…” begins a new point without a clear grammatical structure. Practise accurate simple sentences first, then add subordinate clauses while checking agreement, verb forms, articles and punctuation.
