Student answer (Band 4.5)

when i was in the school so in my 10th standard history was my one of the favourite subject because from the history we know about a lot of old regional or many types of culture things and it’s important for today’s generation to know about there country’s history about what types of kings rule in the old time or how just they fight or what good things they do for us and what bad things they do so from my perspective history is an important subject it also deserves a attention like we give to the science and technology but in this modern era the upcoming is not showing there’s interest in history they all just look at the history like a boring subject where they just learn some important dates or events and it’s usual to look at history from the perspective of new generation that we can call us genze they just hate that things about the dates or event’s history contains a lot of information about our country or culture but like somehow a lot people at that time just hates the history subject in their school or in college it just feels like a huge problem or pressure making subject to them from my knowledge and my experience with history was good its help me sometimes whenever i was teaching my cousins or siblings history helps me a lot and it was good my experience is also so good with history it’s my favourite subject in my school time era

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You give a clear personal view that History is important, and you explain its value through learning about a country’s past, culture, rulers, and their actions. Your personal experience teaching your cousins or siblings also provides a relevant example. However, the task asks you to discuss both views, and the response gives almost no explanation of why Science and technology may be more important today. The opening mentions that History deserves attention alongside them, but this does not develop the opposing argument. Your ideas about young people finding History boring are relevant, yet they are repeated rather than used to build a balanced discussion. To strengthen the response, explain the practical benefits of Science and technology, then compare these with History before stating your conclusion.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5

The response stays focused on History and includes a personal example, but ideas are not arranged into a clear progression. It is presented as one long paragraph, so the reader cannot easily distinguish the discussion of History’s value, the opposing view, and your conclusion. Linking phrases such as “but” and “from my perspective” appear, yet they do not establish clear relationships between the many points, and several ideas—especially that young people dislike dates and see History as boring—are repeated. The final statement about History being your favourite subject functions as a personal conclusion, but it does not resolve the comparison in the task. Use separate paragraphs for each view and your opinion, with clear topic sentences and references that make each point’s connection explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “regional,” “culture,” “kings,” “events,” and “generation,” and the reader can generally understand your main point. However, the range is limited and several expressions are imprecise or repetitive, such as “a lot of old regional or many types of culture things” and “important dates or events.” Some word choices and collocations make the meaning less natural, including “making subject” and “look at the history like a boring subject.” Repeated use of “good,” “important,” and “history” also limits precision. Aim for more specific academic phrasing—for example, describe History as helping students understand cultural heritage, while Science and technology develop practical or technical skills. Check word forms and spelling, including “their” where you mean possession.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt to connect ideas using longer sentences and clauses, but sentence structures are often difficult to control. The opening, “when i was in the school so in my 10th standard,” contains an unclear construction, and the long sequence beginning “it’s important for today’s generation to know” runs through several ideas without reliable sentence boundaries. There are recurring problems with articles, agreement, and verb forms, as in “my one of the favourite subject,” “what types of kings rule,” and “history helps me a lot.” Capitalisation and punctuation are also inconsistent, making sentence boundaries hard to identify. These errors sometimes make the reader work to follow your meaning. Build shorter, complete sentences first, then add controlled complex structures using clauses such as “because” or “although.”
