Student answer (Band 5.0)

It is often debated that which subject plays a crucial role in the betterment of schools. Some individuals believe that in the list of most prioritized subjects, subject of History is always on top. While others argue that in contemporary society Science and technology are bigger fish to fry. I will first focus on latter one before moving to look at those against. In my firm opinion, lectures regarding the knowledge of modern world are pivotal for the learners to stand out in society.

To begin with, I'd like to talk science and tecnology. In recent decades, everything thing is rely on internet. Internet has totally changed the life. Today the intellectual thinking of students is at peak. Therefore according to this, modern subjects are better for students. For instance, China is living in 2050, because of its advancements in technology. The learners over there are very sharp minded due to the fact that they have a lot of access on technology related subjects. There also some drawbacks of these subjects.

On the other hand, the word history seems to be more calm and captivating. The behind for choosing this subject is that it brings back to the ancient times. History is the only subject who relates science all the research is based on the history. This is the drawback that we put this subject aside and give attention to the other moderrn subjects.

To conclude, although both perspectives have their own merits. Some people claim that history should be taught in schools. While others think that the syllabus on recent times should be completely dependent on science and technology.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You introduce both perspectives and state a preference for science and technology, particularly in the opening claim that modern knowledge is important for learners. However, the discussion only partially fulfils the task because the reasons for prioritising each subject are limited and not clearly explained. The technology paragraph relies on broad claims such as “everything thing is rely on internet” and the example of China, without showing specifically how these points support students’ learning. The History paragraph mentions its connection to research but does not explain why understanding the past matters. The conclusion also repeats the two positions rather than clearly restating your own view. Develop each side with a specific reason and relevant example, then make your opinion explicit throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. Transitions such as “To begin with” and “On the other hand” help signal the change in focus. However, progression within paragraphs is often unclear, and some linking phrases do not express the intended relationship. For example, “Therefore according to this” does not clearly connect the preceding claims to the conclusion that modern subjects are better. The introduction promises to discuss one view before “those against,” but the essay does not consistently develop that plan. The final paragraph begins with “although” but does not complete the contrast effectively. Use clearer topic sentences and connect each reason to its explanation and example.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You attempt a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “contemporary society,” “advancements in technology,” and “captivating,” and some phrases show an effort to express ideas beyond basic vocabulary. However, word choice and collocation are frequently inaccurate or informal, which can make meaning difficult to follow. Expressions such as “bigger fish to fry,” “the behind for choosing this subject,” and “access on technology related subjects” are not suitable or clear in this context. There are also noticeable spelling and word-form errors, including “tecnology” and “moderrn.” Aim for precise academic phrasing and check spelling carefully. For instance, describe the benefits of technology directly rather than relying on idioms whose meaning may not fit.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a contrastive opening and clauses introduced by “because” and “although.” However, errors are frequent, and complex structures are often not controlled well enough to communicate the intended relationships smoothly. Examples include “everything thing is rely on internet,” “There also some drawbacks,” and “History is the only subject who relates science,” where verb forms, sentence structure, or agreement are faulty. The conclusion also contains an incomplete contrast: “although both perspectives have their own merits” is followed by a fragment beginning “Some people claim.” Practise building complete sentences with accurate subject–verb forms, articles, and clause connections, then proofread punctuation and sentence boundaries.
