Student answer (Band 6.5)
Some believe that History, as a subject, is the one most important, yet others put forward subjects like Science and Technology above all other. Although, people have got varying opionions, though I strongly believe that both subject groups are fundamental and carry an equal importance in students' learning.
History, as a subject is of profound importance for students studying in schools or colleges. History is considered essential in the curriculum as it helps build a critical thinking about the past events that may have happened in the political as well as societal context. It helps students getting information about the culture of a particular society or a community. By studying History, they get to know about how the civilizations evolved and how the conflicts emerged as well as how the events were followed leading to present day scenarios, for example the history of World wars carry a significant importance.
On the other hand, opponents argue that Science and Technology should be the ones taught to their core. In today's fast paced world, every single thing is being modified by the use of artificial intelligence and science in general, leaving a profound impact on the economic development of a country. For instance, robots are being used for day to day activities in every field of life and science, mobile phones and gadgets have got in-built apps for tracking the blood pressure and the daily step count of an individual.
In conclusion, while History provides valuable knowledge about the past events and cultural trends of a society, subjects like Science and Technology are more relevant in today's fast pacing world. Therefore, it is imperative for schools to inculcate both subjects in the curriculum so as to equip students with scientific knowledge as well as giving them insights into the historical perspectives.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address both perspectives and state a clear opinion: “both subject groups are fundamental” and should be included in the curriculum. The discussion of History explains its value through critical thinking, culture, and understanding how past events shape the present; the Science and Technology paragraph gives relevant contemporary examples, including AI and health-tracking apps. This meets the task’s main requirements. However, the two sides are not developed equally: the historical examples are broad, and the World Wars are mentioned without explaining what students learn from them. The technology examples are also listed more than analysed. To strengthen the response, explain the consequences of each subject’s value and connect the examples more explicitly to your view that they are equally important.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, one paragraph for each viewpoint, and a conclusion that restates your position. Transitions such as “On the other hand” and “In conclusion” make the progression easy to follow, and the ideas within each body paragraph generally stay on topic. This is a coherent arrangement with some effective linking. At times, however, connections feel mechanical or the references are not fully clear. For example, “the ones taught to their core” does not clearly specify what should be taught, while the conclusion repeats the contrast rather than drawing together the reasoning. Use more precise links between claims and examples, and vary transitions by showing relationships such as cause, consequence, or qualification.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
You use an adequate range of topic-related vocabulary, including “critical thinking,” “economic development,” “civilizations evolved,” and “historical perspectives.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, and some less common expressions show an attempt to write in an academic style. There are, however, several inaccurate or unnatural choices that limit precision: “a critical thinking,” “fast pacing world,” and “taught to their core” do not fit naturally in context. There are also spelling and form slips, such as “opionions,” and inconsistent capitalisation of subject names. Aim for accurate collocations and simpler phrasing where a more elaborate expression is uncertain; this will make your argument sound more natural and precise.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including subordinate clauses such as “as it helps…” and “while History provides…”. Most of the meaning remains clear, and the response includes some well-controlled sentences. Some grammatical errors persist, particularly with articles, agreement, and sentence construction. For example, “History, as a subject is” needs punctuation around the inserted phrase, while “both subject groups … carry an equal importance” has an agreement and article problem. The opening also combines “Although” and “though” awkwardly, and “It helps students getting information” uses an incorrect verb pattern. Review article use, subject–verb agreement, and verb patterns after “help”; proofreading these points will improve accuracy while preserving your sentence variety.
