Student answer (Band 6.0)
Some people believe that history is important subjects in school while other people argue that science and technology are more important subjects in schools. In my opinion, I believe that technology and science are more important subjects in this modern world.
Firstly, learning history has many benefits because we can learn a lot of things from our past and we can avoid from these mistakes that past generation do. In addition, history teaches us the lesson of our culture and how our country was formed. For example, if the students learn about the causes of world wars, they can understand the importance of peace. In Pakistan, learning about the struggle of independence helps the young generation, the reason is that they can easy understand the sacrifices of their ancestors. Therefore, some people think that history should not be ignored.
However, science and technology are more important today because we live in modern and digital world. Subjects like science, computer, and mathematics give us practical skills that help us to get a job. For instance, a student that has IT skills can get a job easily in our country but history have fewer job opportunities. Technology makes our life easier through mobile phones, internet, and transport. A country cannot develop without progress in Science and Technology. Therefore, some people believe that science and technology play an important today.
In my opinion, although Science and Technology are essential for jobs and development, History is equally important for character building. Schools should teach Science and Technology as main subjects for career growth, but History should also be taught for character building.
In conclusion, both subjects have their own value. While Science and Technology prepare students for the future, History prepares them to understand the past. In my view, schools should give equal importance to both.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address both sides of the discussion and give a clear opinion: science and technology are important for employment and development, while history contributes to understanding culture and building character. The examples about the world wars and Pakistan’s independence make the points relevant. However, the two views are not developed equally: the benefits of history are explained with specific examples, whereas the case for science and technology relies more on broad claims such as “a country cannot develop without progress.” Your final position also shifts from saying science and technology are more important to recommending equal importance for both. Make this relationship explicit and support the comparison with a more specific example to develop your argument more fully.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, your opinion, and a conclusion. Sequencing is easy to follow, and signposts such as “Firstly,” “However,” and “In conclusion” help readers recognise the stages of the argument. Some linking is mechanical, though, with “Therefore” repeated to close both discussion paragraphs. The relationship between your initial preference for science and technology and your later recommendation of equal importance is also not fully signposted. Improve progression by explaining how your view develops, and use a wider range of links that show contrast, cause, or qualification rather than relying on repeated transition words.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “causes of world wars,” “struggle of independence,” “practical skills,” and “career growth.” These expressions help communicate the main ideas, and the meaning remains clear despite some imprecise choices. However, several phrases are repetitive or not quite natural, such as “important subjects,” “history have fewer job opportunities,” and “play an important today.” There is also inconsistent capitalisation of subject names, including “Science and Technology.” Aim for more precise collocations and varied wording—for example, distinguish between subjects’ educational value and their career prospects. More accurate phrasing would make the comparison sound more fluent and persuasive.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a concession in “although Science and Technology are essential for jobs and development” and a conditional example beginning “if the students learn.” Most sentences communicate their meaning, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “history is important subjects” has a singular–plural mismatch, “we can avoid from these mistakes” uses an incorrect grammatical pattern, and “history have fewer job opportunities” has subject–verb disagreement. Articles and sentence structure also need attention in “we live in modern and digital world” and “a student that has IT skills.” Review agreement, article use, and verb patterns, then proofread each sentence. Greater accuracy across these structures would strengthen the response.
