Student answer (Band 5.0)
In todays rapidly changing world, school syllabus is become a matter of considerable debate. While some people believe that school should teach children history , others argue that in modern world subject like science and technology are more important. This essay will discuss both perspectives before I explaining why I believe that modern subjects are more crucial in this modern era.
One of the main reason why schools have to focus on science and technology because we have to move forward if our child knows about science then he'll contribute to it, For example if Albert Einstein didn't learn about physics then how we knew about theory of relativity and many contributions he gave to science.
On the other hand the main reason school ought to teach about History because of our children should know our origin and what we were in ancient era or how people made one mistake and lost their entire kingdom, As a result children would know about mistakes do not do it again, and furthermore some positive things from history is children know about great man lived on earth with their simple lives.
In conclusion , although history is important subject it teaches us how our life were simple in past and how they fought their land , In my opinion science and technology are more important subjects because we have to move forward to backward to learn history thats all about this debate.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You address both sides and state a clear preference for science and technology, particularly in the introduction and conclusion. The Einstein example gives some support to the view that scientific learning can lead to progress, while your history paragraph identifies learning from past mistakes as a benefit. However, the discussion is only partially developed: the Einstein point is presented as a rhetorical question rather than explained, and the history examples remain broad. The conclusion also introduces an unclear idea about needing to “move forward to backward to learn history,” which weakens your final position. The response is 11 words below the required minimum, so there is limited space for developing the arguments. Explain each view with a specific example and a clearer link to your opinion.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, one paragraph for each viewpoint, and a conclusion. Phrases such as “On the other hand” and “In conclusion” help signal the main stages, and the reader can generally follow the intended contrast. However, progression within paragraphs is uneven, and several ideas are joined in long, loosely connected sentences. For example, the history paragraph moves from origins to lost kingdoms and then to “great man” without clearly showing how these points relate. Some linking is mechanical, while the final sentence is difficult to follow. Organise each body paragraph around one main reason, then explain and illustrate it before moving to the next point; use clearer sentence boundaries and references.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “theory of relativity,” “ancient era,” and “contribute,” which helps communicate the subject matter. There is also an attempt at more formal phrasing, such as “considerable debate” and “perspectives.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or awkward, including “school syllabus is become,” “great man lived on earth,” and “fought their land.” These expressions sometimes make the intended meaning less clear. Spelling and form also need attention, as in “todays” and “child” where a plural is intended. Build a bank of accurate topic phrases and check whether each word naturally fits its context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including a contrast clause beginning “While some people believe…” and a reason clause with “because.” However, complex structures are often faulty, and frequent errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and punctuation can make the reader work to understand the message. Examples include “school syllabus is become,” “One of the main reason,” and “the main reason school ought to teach… because of our children should know.” The long sentence about Einstein also lacks controlled punctuation and clause structure. Practise building accurate sentences with one main clause and a clearly attached supporting clause, then check subject–verb agreement, verb forms, and sentence boundaries.
