Student answer (Band 5.5)

History as well as Science and Technology are all very important for better mental growth and gain in knowledge of students. History helps them in learning about culture, fashion and traditions of ancient people of any city, while science and technology boosts their humour by advancing their thoughts.

To begin with, many people think that history subjects are not necessary for schools to teach. People assuming this are not at wrong as these books take students to past and make their minds stuck with old fashions and cultures, by learning those courses and giving tests accordingly. but, it is also important. The students would never forget about their culture and the living ethics of their ancestors. More importantly, It tells them about the history of their country that how their country was found or conquered. This will make them realize that how precious their country actually was for older people that they devoted their lives for its sake.

In addition, today's world subject such as science and technology also are important because the world is advancing, every student should know about the advancements and modern machines and tech. They should be so much able, that if they look at any technical invention, they were able to tell the basic principal and working of that invention. Their minds should be much able to build and invent new technologies on their own in future. Experiments in the schools should be performed and an interest should be developed in them.

As per my conclusion, Science is more important but the importance of history should also not be neglected as it is the asset of our country.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both sides of the discussion and give a clear preference for science, while also recognising that history should not be neglected. The points about history preserving cultural knowledge and explaining how a country was founded, and about science preparing students to understand and create technology, are relevant to the question. However, the two views are not developed equally: the case against prioritising history is described mainly as a concern that it keeps students focused on the past, without explaining why science should receive more classroom time or giving a concrete example. Your opinion appears most clearly in the conclusion; state it directly in the introduction and support it with a specific example to make the response more fully developed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a coherent overall arrangement: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two subject areas, and a concluding opinion. Connectors such as “To begin with” and “In addition” help signal the progression. Some links are less clear or mechanical, however. The history paragraph shifts from the view that history is unnecessary to its value without clearly marking the contrast, and “but, it is also important” begins abruptly. The opening sentence also presents both subjects as important, while the conclusion favours science, so the position could be signposted more consistently. Use clearer transitions such as “Nevertheless” when changing direction, and make each paragraph’s main point explicit before adding supporting details.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “culture,” “traditions,” “advancements,” “technical invention,” and “experiments.” These choices make the subject matter clear, and you attempt more specific expressions such as “living ethics of their ancestors.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, which limits precision: “boosts their humour” does not express the intended effect on thinking, and “basic principal and working” is not the appropriate phrasing for explaining technology. “Old fashions” is also an imprecise way to describe historical customs. Aim for natural academic collocations and check word forms and spelling, especially when using less familiar vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “while,” “because,” and “that.” This gives the response some structural variety, and the main ideas are generally understandable. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly in longer sentences. For example, “People assuming this are not at wrong” has an incorrect construction, while “if they look at any technical invention, they were able to tell” shifts tense and does not maintain a consistent conditional form. There are also issues with articles, agreement, and punctuation, as in “but” after a full stop and the capitalised “It” mid-sentence. Build accuracy by checking subject–verb agreement, tense consistency, and sentence boundaries after drafting.
