Student answer (Band 6.5)
There are different views about the choice of subjects . Some people believe that history is the most essential subject taught in the school while others believe that today science related courses are more relevant. In my opinion, subjects involving science and technology have more significance and are versatile.
Those who give priority history subjects argues that history help us to understand our past. By studying manuscripts and fossils, we come to know about how our ancestors lived and different species that exist at that time. For example, by studying Indus Valley Civilisation, one of the oldest civilisation, we came to know about their culture, language and how there society functioned. In addition, history also helps us trace human origins. It explains how humans evolved, what they used to eat and wear, how they used to live and protect themselves.
On the other hand, those who support science and technology believe that by studying these subjects many inventions are possible, and at the same time these inventions have made our life easier. For instance, with the advancement of technology, we have created aeroplanes, cars and mobile phone, these inventions have made our lives easy and convenient. We can now travel long distances in short period of time and use mobile phones to communicate around the wold. In addition, science and technology have made our infrastructure more advanced. For example, now we can create our building in one week with 3-D printing and precast construction. Thus, prioritising science and technology has made us more advance and capable of achieving things that were considered impossible.
In conclusion, although studying history teaches us about our past, I believe understanding science help us to improve our future by developing appliances that make our live more comfortable. Hence we should focus more on science and technology to progress more rapidly

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You address both perspectives and state a clear opinion in the introduction and conclusion: science and technology are more significant because they can improve the future. The history paragraph gives relevant support through the Indus Valley example and explains how history reveals past ways of life. The science paragraph also develops its case with inventions, communication and construction examples. This coverage and support make the response convincing overall. Some claims, however, are broad or not fully explained—for example, the assertion that 3-D printing and precast construction allow buildings to be created in one week is presented without context, and the link between studying science and making inventions could be developed further. Explain the examples more precisely and compare the subjects’ value more directly.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, one paragraph for each view, and a conclusion that restates your position. The progression within the body paragraphs is generally logical, and signposts such as “On the other hand,” “For example,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the argument. Supporting details are usually placed beside the point they illustrate. At times, however, the linking is somewhat formulaic, with repeated “For example” and “In addition,” and some sentences carry several ideas at once. The transition from the history paragraph’s account of human origins to the science discussion could also be more deliberate. Vary the ways you connect evidence to claims, and use clearer sentence boundaries to make the progression feel more natural.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “manuscripts,” “fossils,” “evolved,” “infrastructure,” and “precast construction.” These choices help convey relevant ideas, and the meaning remains clear despite some inaccurate or awkward expressions. For instance, “history subjects” and “science related courses” are less natural than established subject-area phrases, while “made us more advance” uses the wrong form and “around the wold” contains a spelling error. There is also repetition of “made our life/lives” and “inventions.” To strengthen your vocabulary, choose collocations carefully and check word forms and spelling during revision. More precise phrasing would make the examples sound more fluent and academic.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex structures, including a relative clause in “inventions that have made our life easier” and a conditional-style explanation of how technology enables travel and communication. Most ideas are understandable, but some grammatical errors remain. Subject–verb agreement is inconsistent in “history subjects argues” and “history help us”; articles and plurals also need attention in “one of the oldest civilisation” and “mobile phone.” The sentence beginning “For instance, with the advancement of technology” joins independent clauses with a comma, and “understanding science help us” has an agreement error. Review agreement, articles and sentence boundaries, while retaining your attempts at longer structures. These corrections would improve accuracy without sacrificing range.
