Student answer (Band 6.0)
Whether history is a more important subject than Science and Technology is a matter of debate. Some individuals contend that history is a most important subject because it provides information about historic events and civilizations, others argue that science and technology are better subjects to study because of their crucial role in providing solutions to many problems worldwide.
In history, students learn about historical events such as World War I and II. Students can learn details of such events and their consequences which may enlighten the value of peace. For instance, Due to War, people were imposed to poverty, financial stress, lack of housing and loss of life. Consequently, learners can enhance their knowledge about detrimental effects of war and appreciate peace.
In contemporary society, science and technology have many positive sides to discuss. Firstly, the medical technology gets advanced. Many diseases can be diagnosed, cured and prevented using medical technology. Other issues such as global warming, pollution, natural disasters can be measured and informed through technology. For instance, weather can be forecast a few days in advanced with the help of technology. So, if students will study such subjects as priority, they will be able to contribute positively in the future.
In conclusion, history is important to teach the students about historic events and mistakes to avoid. However, I strongly believe that science and technology have substantial benefits. Schools should provide both subjects and help students to make informed choices when choosing subjects.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You discuss both perspectives and give a clear preference for science and technology, while also explaining how studying wars can teach students to value peace. The examples of medical advances and weather forecasting are relevant. However, the two views are not developed equally: the history paragraph focuses mainly on the consequences of war, while the science and technology paragraph gives several benefits without explaining in much detail why these subjects should take priority in education. Your conclusion says schools should teach both, which slightly softens your stated preference. The response is also six words below the required minimum. Develop each side with fuller explanation and make your final position consistent with the argument throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, one paragraph for each viewpoint, and a conclusion. The progression from history to contemporary science and technology is easy to follow, and signposts such as “Firstly,” “For instance,” and “In conclusion” help guide the reader. Paragraphs generally keep to one main topic. To make the organisation more effective, use linking expressions less mechanically and show the relationship between ideas more precisely. For example, the move from medical technology to environmental issues could be connected with a sentence explaining that technology addresses both health and wider societal challenges. The conclusion could also refer back more directly to the reasons discussed, rather than introducing the idea of students making choices.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “civilizations,” “consequences,” “detrimental effects,” “diagnosed,” and “substantial benefits.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, and the meaning remains clear. There are, however, some inaccurate or unnatural word combinations, such as “the medical technology gets advanced,” “were imposed to poverty,” and “in advanced.” “Historic” and “historical” are also repeated, and “positive sides to discuss” is vague. Aim for more natural collocations and greater precision—for example, describe medical technology as advancing and say that people were driven into poverty. Varying repeated terms and choosing exact expressions would make the argument sound more fluent and academic.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “consequences which may enlighten the value of peace” and a conditional structure in “if students will study such subjects as priority.” Most sentences communicate their meaning, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, the conditional would be more accurate as “if students study these subjects as a priority,” and “the medical technology gets advanced” has an awkward verb construction. The opening sentence also joins two independent ideas with a comma, creating a comma splice. Check articles and sentence boundaries, and practise forming conditionals accurately. These improvements would strengthen control while preserving the range of structures you already attempt.
