Student answer (Band 5.0)

In the modern world, some individulas believe that history is very crucial school subjects, while others argue that in today's world subjects like science and technology are more inportant than history. However, in my opinion, science and technology are very beneficial subjects rather than history. This essay will discuss both views before presenting my personal opinion.

On the one hand, reading history subjects people can learn much valuable information about our ancentors and traditional cultures. This is because history subjects contain these historical events. Since many years age, many historical events were preserved in history subjects so that we could read them. For example, there are many cultural events in our country and these traditions have been celebriting since many years ago because all details were writien in history books. As a result, people can explore old cluture and traditional events by reading history subjects.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response introduces both sides of the debate and gives a clear preference for science and technology, while the paragraph on history offers a relevant reason: learning about ancestors, cultures, and traditions. However, the task is addressed only partially. The science-and-technology view is not explained, and the stated opinion is not supported with reasons or examples. The response also ends without a conclusion, so the discussion remains incomplete. The response contains 137 words, below the required 250; 8 words copied from the task prompt were not counted. To improve, develop both viewpoints with specific explanations and examples, then restate your position in a concluding paragraph.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some organisation: an introductory paragraph states the topic and opinion, followed by a paragraph beginning “On the one hand” that develops the historical perspective. Linking expressions such as “This is because,” “For example,” and “As a result” show an attempt to connect claims and support. However, there is no paragraph presenting the other side or a conclusion, so the response has no clear overall progression toward a completed discussion. Several links also repeat the same point about historical events and traditions rather than advancing the argument. Use a separate paragraph for each view, make each sentence add a new step to the reasoning, and finish with a concise conclusion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The response uses a basic range of topic-related vocabulary, including “historical events,” “traditional cultures,” and “cultural events,” which makes the subject generally clear. However, vocabulary is repetitive, particularly the repeated use of “history subjects” and “historical events,” and several spelling or word-choice errors reduce accuracy: “individulas,” “inportant,” “ancentors,” “celebrating,” “writien,” and “cluture.” Some expressions are also unnatural, such as “reading history subjects” and “since many years ago.” Aim for more precise collocations and check spelling carefully. For example, refer to “studying history” and “historical records,” and use varied terms such as “the past,” “heritage,” or “scientific advances” where appropriate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including a subordinate clause in “This is because…” and a result clause introduced by “so that.” Most of the intended meaning remains understandable, and the opening sentence successfully contrasts two positions. However, control is uneven in sentence construction and grammatical patterns. For example, “reading history subjects people can learn” lacks a clear grammatical connection between the opening phrase and the main clause; “Since many years age” does not form a correct time expression; and “these traditions have been celebrating” uses an unsuitable verb form for the intended passive meaning. Practise building complete clauses and checking tense, voice, and sentence openings. More accurate complex sentences would make the reasoning easier to follow.
