Student answer (Band 5.5)
People often argue about hich subjects are the most important in our education system. Some believe that history is more important while some believe that subjects regarding science and technology are more important. In my opinion, scine and technology is more important.
Overall, all the subjects are more or less important. But the objectives of the subjests differ from one another. Some subjects enlighthen our minds and give up wisdom. Some help us gain knowledge about the world.
The contemporary society is made of the past events that shaped humanity. That's why history is important. Starting from when humans discovered fire, we have conqured the entire world through wars, discoveries and inventions. These events and occurences collectively form our history. People believe that history is one of the most important becuase it carries the symbol of humanities advancement and our capability to progress rapidly. Also history carries a nation's past, how it came to be. For instance, Bangladeshi's had to fight a bloody war for independence. This is our history. It gives us hope and reminds us of our nations pride. Our history will teach our students patrotism and make them elligible citizens.
In the past, humans have progressed with time. This was only posible through science and technology. Even when humans first discovered fire, the reactins and mechanisms for it were elements of science. From the steam engine, we now have v8 engines. This advancement was only possible due to science and technology. People has made new inventions which turned the wave the development in favour of humans.
I believe, we cannot progress to a better future if we keep loking at the past. We can adhere the morals, teachings left behind, but if we want to modernisize our life, we must look forward and make science and technology are top most priority.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You discuss both perspectives and state your view clearly in the opening: “science and technology is more important.” The history section is relevant and supported with the example of Bangladesh’s independence, while the science section refers to developments from fire to engines. This covers the task, but the two views are not developed equally: the history argument explains national identity and citizenship, whereas the science argument relies mainly on a brief account of inventions. Your conclusion repeats your preference but presents progress as requiring us to look forward rather than at the past, without fully considering how history and science might both contribute. Develop the science case with a specific modern example and explain more directly why it outweighs history in your view.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, a general paragraph, separate discussion of history and science, and a concluding opinion. This makes the main stages easy to identify. However, progression is uneven. The paragraph beginning “Overall, all the subjects…” introduces broad claims about subjects that are not clearly connected to the discussion that follows, and the science paragraph moves quickly from fire to engines without explaining the link in detail. Some connections are mechanical or unclear, such as repeated use of “Also” and “This advancement.” Improve the flow by making each paragraph’s purpose explicit, linking examples to the claim they support, and using clearer references when moving between past developments and present-day technology.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some topic-relevant vocabulary, including “humanity,” “independence,” “inventions,” “advancement,” and “patriotism,” which helps communicate ideas about history and technology. There are also attempts at less common expressions, such as “the symbol of humanity’s advancement,” though some combinations are awkward or imprecise. Spelling errors are noticeable in words such as “conquered,” “occurrences,” “eligible,” and “modernise,” and these reduce the accuracy of the vocabulary. Phrases such as “turned the wave the development in favour of humans” are difficult to interpret. Aim for precise, natural collocations and proofread spelling; for example, describe inventions as “driving human development” rather than using an unclear expression.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use both simple sentences and more complex forms, including the relative clause in “events that shaped humanity” and the conditional structure “if we want to modernise our life, we must look forward.” Meaning is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors remain. Subject–verb agreement is inconsistent in “science and technology is more important” and “People has made new inventions.” The final sentence, “make science and technology are top most priority,” has a faulty verb pattern, and “Starting from when humans discovered fire” is an awkwardly constructed opening. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly around commas and apostrophes. Review agreement and verb patterns, and check that each sentence has a complete, correctly linked structure.
