Student answer (Band 5.5)

Subjects in the school are taught to gain knowledge in general with specific area covering History which is included in Individual Socities and in India it includes in Social Studies. It comes along with Geography. The other subjects like Mathematics, Language (Hindi, Arabic, Gujarati, French Spanish, German, etc.,) English Lit, Computer Science, Physical Education and many more. Amongst these subjects Science remains mandatory starting from Grade 1 till Grade 12 where as History is introduced to the students in Middle School Years that is from Grade 6 onwards.

Nevertheless, when both the subjects are compared it doesn't justify the gain in the knowledge by an individual. Both the subjects are as important as a cream on a cake. Science and technology needs to be included as a subject because it applies in their day to day life. For instance, usage of electricity, water, oxygen, solar system, human body, etc., on the other hand History shares knowledge on how the world evolved from generation to generation and how the freedom for an individual country was achieved by the freedom fighters. For instance, Mahatma Gandhi got freedom from British people for India in 1947, Martin Luther King faught for black people, Christopher Columbus discovered America, etc.,

Science plays a vital role in day to day routine of an individual. It consists of Physics, Chemistry and Biology where Physics include quantum physics, and many more. Chemistry includes chemical reaction of acid and base, periodic table and medicinal approach is given. Biology includes human body, biological system of all the living creatures that is plants, animals and human. Without Science a curriculum remains useless. On the other hand History needs to be learnt by the sutdents to understand where they stand today is because someone sacrificed thier life for the nation and gave them this world to live in.

In conclusion, both the subjects has their own role to play in a curriculum. It is very important for a school to teach both the subjects to gain overall knowledge and give importance equally.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both sides of the discussion and give a clear concluding view that schools should teach both subjects equally. Relevant examples include science in everyday life and historical figures such as Gandhi and Martin Luther King. However, the discussion is only partly developed: the science examples are mostly a list of topics, and the historical examples are named without explaining how studying them benefits students today. The opening focuses heavily on how subjects are organised in Indian schools, which does not directly advance the comparison. To strengthen the response, explain the distinct value of each subject—for example, how science supports practical problem-solving and how history helps students understand social change—and make your own preference clearer in the body as well as the conclusion.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, discussion paragraphs and a conclusion, and it uses signposts such as “Nevertheless,” “For instance,” and “On the other hand.” These help readers identify the two subject areas. However, progression is uneven: the opening lists many school subjects before reaching the central comparison, and the third paragraph repeats points about science and history rather than extending the argument. Some links are mechanical, particularly the repeated “On the other hand,” while the long lists make relationships between ideas less clear. Organise the body around one paragraph for each viewpoint, with a clear main claim followed by explanation and a relevant example. This would make the argument easier to follow and reduce repetition.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant subject vocabulary, including “curriculum,” “Physics,” “Chemistry,” “Biology,” and “freedom fighters,” and you attempt phrases such as “plays a vital role.” This gives you enough vocabulary to communicate the topic. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, including “gain in the knowledge,” “as a cream on a cake,” and “got freedom from British people.” There are also spelling errors such as “Socities,” “faught,” and “sutdents,” which reduce precision. Some lists of subject terms take the place of more developed vocabulary for comparing educational benefits. Aim for accurate academic phrases such as “acquire knowledge,” “contributes to everyday life,” and “India gained independence from British rule,” and proofread spelling carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentences, and the response is generally understandable. However, control is inconsistent, especially in complex sentences and subject–verb agreement. For example, “Science and technology needs” should use a plural verb, while “both the subjects has” should be “both subjects have.” The sentence beginning “It consists of Physics, Chemistry and Biology where Physics include…” contains several clauses whose grammatical relationships are unclear; “Physics includes” is needed, and the sentence would be clearer if divided. There are also errors with articles and sentence boundaries, as in “Without Science a curriculum remains useless.” Practise building accurate compound and complex sentences, checking agreement and punctuation, and avoid joining long lists into a single sentence.
