Student answer (Band 6.0)
Some people believe learning history is crucial in schools, while others argue science and technology are more valuable in the modern world. From my perspective, the importance of histroy can't be ignored but subjects like science and technology plays significant role today.
On the one hand, history is the important subject to study. It provides us with knowledge which is valuable for our future. It teaches students about their culture, identity and past mistakes. For example, by learning about World Wars, students understand the cost of conflict and learn to value peace. They can also gain experience from past people by knowing the history of their ancestors. Without history, the next generation would have no idea where they came from.
On the other hand, in today's competitive world, science and technology are more practical and essential. Almost every job, from medicine to engineering to business, requires scientific knowledge. Technology is driving our economy. For instance, countries like Pakistan need IT experts and doctors more than historians to solve real problems like health and unemployment. Children who has a great interest in science and technology will have more jobs opportunities in future. Moreover, it helps in solving health problems, climate changes and so on.
In conclusion, although history provides valuable lessons about culture and the past, science and technology are more important for students. History help students gain experience and understand their roots but science and technology not only provide careers and for national development in the modern era also plays a vital role in solving problem.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address both sides of the discussion and state a clear preference for science and technology, while acknowledging that history remains valuable. Relevant support includes learning from the World Wars and the need for doctors and IT specialists in Pakistan. This meets the task, but the two views are not developed equally: the case for history is explained through culture, identity and peace, whereas the case for modern subjects relies mainly on broad claims about jobs and national needs. The final sentence also repeats the contrast rather than adding a developed reason for your opinion. To strengthen the response, explain more specifically how science or technology benefits students and society, and develop one example in greater depth.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for each view, and a conclusion. The signposts “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” make the progression easy to follow, and examples are generally placed beside the points they support. This is a coherent arrangement, with some effective progression between ideas. However, connections within sentences are occasionally awkward, particularly in the conclusion, where the contrast between history and science is difficult to follow. The final paragraph also repeats points already made rather than synthesising them. Use clearer links between claims and explanations, and make the conclusion state your position in a concise, logically connected way.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “culture,” “identity,” “conflict,” “competitive world,” and “national development.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, and there is some attempt to use more specific language such as “IT experts” and “unemployment.” However, the range is limited in places, with repeated use of “important,” “problems,” and “science and technology.” Some word choices or combinations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “gain experience from past people” and “health problems, climate changes.” The spelling error “histroy” also affects accuracy. Aim for more precise collocations and vary repeated terms; for example, describe what students learn from historical events rather than saying they gain experience from people in the past.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use both simple statements and some more complex forms, including the contrastive opening and the example introduced by “For example.” Most of the meaning remains clear, but some errors in agreement, articles and sentence construction reduce accuracy. For instance, “subjects like science and technology plays” should use a plural verb, and “Children who has” should be “Children who have.” The conclusion contains a particularly unclear construction: “science and technology not only provide careers and for national development … also plays.” Check that paired structures such as “not only … but also” have parallel grammar, and review subject–verb agreement and articles. More controlled complex sentences would improve accuracy without sacrificing the ideas.
