Student answer (Band 6.0)
Certain individuals believe that History is one of the most crucial courses in schools as it contributes to enrich the knowledge of the students, to promote patriotism, whereas others advocate that Science and technology are more essential than History which I support as well because they have made our lives convenient and effortless.
To begin, History plays a significant role in our lives. We can know about the roots from where we came. When we read history of their own countries, it allows us to know about our ancestors, their sacrifices. For instance, Bangladeshi students will able to learn about the liberation war in which more than 3 millions of people of our nation became martyrs in order to achieve independency against Pakistani army. As a result, it helps to increase the love for the country. Moreover, it is the best way to boraden somoeones horizons. Students can know about the life style of other nations such as their food habits, customs, their ways of living.
On the other hand, technology has become a integral part of our lives. We can not go a single day without the contribution of the modern science. They has made the communication instantaneous. We can communicate with our loved ones within a short peiod of time. For instance, we can send pictures, videos or video call them via Facebook, Whatsapp, Messenger. Apart from this, Science has made possible to travel around the world by the invention of cutting edge transportation. Plane, ship are some of the examples. Therefore, subjects like Science and technology should be teached more widely. As a consequence, pupils can understand more widely about the digital tools and devices such as their background and how they were discovered.
So sum up, In my perception, Science and technology are the more beneficial subjects which is explained in the aforementioned points of view.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address both sides of the discussion and state a clear preference for science and technology in the opening and conclusion. The history paragraph gives relevant support through Bangladesh’s Liberation War and explains how studying it can foster national attachment; the technology paragraph also offers practical examples of communication and transport. This meets the task well overall. However, some points are more fully explained than others: the claim that history broadens students’ horizons is listed with examples but not linked clearly to why it matters, while the benefits of science and technology are mainly described as convenience. To strengthen the response further, develop the educational value of each subject and explain more directly why your preferred subjects deserve greater emphasis in schools.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, one paragraph for each viewpoint, and a concluding statement. Transitions such as “To begin,” “On the other hand,” and “Moreover” help readers follow the discussion, and the examples are generally placed beside the ideas they support. Some cohesion is nevertheless mechanical, with several sentences beginning through explicit linking phrases, and the final “So sum up” conclusion is very brief and does not synthesise the two arguments. There are also occasional unclear references, such as “They has made the communication instantaneous,” where the subject is not clearly connected to the preceding sentence. Use more varied links between ideas and make references explicit to improve progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “patriotism,” “ancestors,” “instantaneous,” and “cutting edge,” and these choices help communicate the main ideas. There are also attempts at less common or formal expressions, such as “contributes to enrich” and “aforementioned points of view,” though some are not natural or precise in context. Spelling and word-choice slips—including “boraden,” “somoeones,” and “independency”—reduce accuracy, while phrases such as “made our lives convenient and effortless” sound overstated. Aim for more natural collocations and check spelling carefully; precise, familiar wording is more effective than formal-sounding phrases used inaccurately.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “the liberation war in which…” and a conditional-style explanation of what students can learn. Meaning is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors remain across the response. Examples include “They has made” instead of “They have made,” “a integral part” instead of “an integral part,” and “students will able to learn” instead of “students will be able to learn.” There are also problems with sentence construction in the opening and conclusion, including “which I support as well because…” and “subjects which is explained.” Review subject–verb agreement, articles, and verb patterns, then proofread each sentence to ensure its clauses are complete and correctly connected.
