Student answer (Band 5.5)

Today we are going to do the comparison between two subjects that students commonly study in their schools everyone has there own point of view some of them thinks that history is the most important subject while others thought that it is more beneficial for students to study science and technology. We have to discuss both of the points below.

Firstly, history is very important course in which we have to study about our ancestors and it is important because there are many lessons we take from history. For example the discovery of fire is vey important if there is no fire how would we able to cook food. Furthermore, by seeing the strategy of Catapult now we are able to use tanks during wars to destroy strong walls and to attack on the other side of wall. By studying the history we are now able to do many of new inventions.

Secondly, Science and Technology are the two main things without them nothing is possible in present era. There is no success without that two fields of study because with the help of scientific methods huge amount of new inventions are happening for example the line of Artificial Intelligence and Information Technology is moving soo faster than this world before that AI nobody is able to thinks about that there is a machine which do work do communicate like a human being but now it is possible.

Overall, From my perspective if we want to become a successful person so the fields like science and technology are the most high rated history has its own importance but if we want to survive under this environment so the technology is the best.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both sides of the discussion and give a clear preference for science and technology in the conclusion. The examples of learning from the discovery of fire and the development of AI are relevant, and you acknowledge that history still has value. However, the discussion is only partly developed: the link between the catapult and modern tanks is asserted rather than explained, and the benefits of studying history are not explored beyond learning lessons and inspiring inventions. Your case for science and technology is also broad; explain more specifically how these subjects help individuals or society, and support the claim that they are more important. A more consistently developed comparison would make your response more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two viewpoints, and a concluding opinion. Sequencing words such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” and “Overall” help readers follow the main stages. However, some connections are mechanical, and the opening sentence runs several ideas together without clear punctuation, making the introduction harder to follow. Within paragraphs, examples sometimes arrive without a clear explanation of how they support the main point. For instance, clarify the reasoning connecting historical military strategies to present-day technology. Use linking phrases to show comparison and cause more precisely, and make references such as “that two fields” clearer.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “ancestors,” “scientific methods,” “Artificial Intelligence,” and “Information Technology,” and you attempt some less common terms such as “strategy” and “inventions.” This gives you enough vocabulary to communicate the main ideas. However, several choices are inaccurate or unnatural, including “do the comparison,” “most high rated,” and “the line of Artificial Intelligence … is moving.” Spelling slips such as “vey” and “soo” also reduce accuracy. Aim for more natural academic collocations and precise wording—for example, describe AI as “developing rapidly” and say that a subject is “highly valuable” rather than “high rated.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “because” and “if,” but control is uneven. Errors in agreement and verb forms appear in phrases such as “some of them thinks,” “nobody is able to thinks,” and “a machine which do work.” There are also problems with articles, plurals, and sentence boundaries: “the two main things” is followed by “without them,” while the opening contains several independent ideas joined without appropriate punctuation. These errors sometimes make the reader pause to interpret your meaning. Practise building accurate complex sentences, checking subject–verb agreement, and separating complete sentences with full stops or suitable conjunctions.
