Student answer (Band 6.0)

In the modern era of education, subjects such as Science and technology are getting more priority by some people than the subject like history. However, some people still believe that History remains the most vital subject in the school. Discussion based on both of the views are shown bellow;

History is the subject which is very much related to the root of human civilization. It introduces us with the evolution and transformation of the society. History works as the connector of modern world to its origin. For example, in a history class, students can learn about the socio-cultural and technological change which can inspire them to bring the positive changes for the future generation through creating new and positive history.

On the other hand, the modern world runs through science and technology. Without science and technology the modern society is like fish out of water. In order to continue the scientific and technological innovation and discovery, it is very important for current students to study subjects like Science and Technology in school. Without learning and science and technology it may even impossible to investigate on the historical artifacts and incidences as well.

From the above discussion I would like to put my opinion in favour of learning Science and Technology more than History in the schools. Because, History tells us the story that has already gone from us, but Science and Technology gives us insights into a new transformation. It shows us new lights to a brighter future. Students with more knowledge of science and technology can change a whole nation now-a-days. So, it is very important for the current school to ensure the teaching of Science and Technology. Although the learning of History should also be introduced to the students in order to keep them touched with the root of the modern civilization.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address both perspectives and state a clear preference for Science and Technology, while also acknowledging that History should remain part of the curriculum. The explanation of History’s value—understanding society’s origins and learning from past change—is relevant, and the point that scientific methods help investigate historical artefacts adds a useful link between the subjects. However, some ideas are asserted rather than fully explained: for example, the claim that science students “can change a whole nation” would be stronger with a specific example or explanation. The discussion of History is also less developed than your case for science. To strengthen the response, extend each main reason with a concrete illustration and clarify why your preferred subject deserves greater emphasis.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph for each viewpoint, and a conclusion that restates your position. Transitions such as “On the other hand” and “From the above discussion” help readers follow the shift in argument. The progression is generally logical, but some linking is mechanical, and the opening’s announcement that the discussion follows does not add much. Within paragraphs, ideas sometimes move quickly from a general claim to an example or conclusion without showing the connection fully. For instance, the link between studying historical change and creating a positive future could be explained more explicitly. Use a wider range of natural transitions and clearer references between sentences, while keeping each paragraph focused on one developed reason.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use a suitable range of topic vocabulary, including “human civilization,” “evolution and transformation,” “technological innovation,” and “historical artifacts.” These choices make the subject matter clear, and you attempt some less common expressions. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “the subject like history,” “connector of modern world to its origin,” and “keep them touched with the root.” “Fish out of water” is also not a natural fit for describing society’s dependence on technology. These issues do not prevent understanding, but they limit precision and fluency. Aim for more conventional academic collocations, and check word forms and spelling, including “below” and “nowadays.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “which,” “in order to,” and “although.” Most of the argument remains understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “Discussion based on both of the views are shown” has a subject–verb agreement problem, while “it may even impossible” is missing a verb. There are also issues with articles and sentence boundaries, as in “the modern world” and the sentence beginning “Because, History tells us…,” which is not well connected to the preceding sentence. Work on complete sentence structure, agreement, and article use, and punctuate dependent clauses carefully. More accurate control of these patterns would make your varied structures clearer.
