Student answer (Band 6.0)
Some individuals believe that History is one of the most important school subjects. Other people think that in the modern day society learning areas like Science and technology are more valuable than History. In my opinion, both Science, technology and History are subjects that help learners develop their careers and strengthen their critical thinking skills.
On the one hand, learners have different ambitions while they are in school. Different abilities place learners on different career pathways. For instance, students who want to become lawyers in future will need History to have a strong foundation for their career. Whereas learners who are interested in medicine will require to perform well in Science related subjects. Learning all these academic fields will help learners identify their strengths before choosing which career is suitable for their strengths. Therefore, all these academic disciplines are paramount in schools for learners' growth.
On the other hand, learning areas allow students to develop critical thinking. Tasks given in different subjects strengthens children independent thinking. For instance, in science, learners may want to understand how the Ozone layer is affected by chemicals from industries and how this affects our health. In History, students will learn world war 2 and how it shaped countries economies. As a result, the student will try to analyse these problems and understand there solutions. By doing so, they would have developed their critical thinking skills.
In conclusion, History, science and technology are fundamental subjects in learners development since they help shape their future careers and build their critical thinking skills.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You give a clear opinion that both subject areas matter, and you discuss reasons connected to careers and critical thinking. The examples of aspiring lawyers and medical students, and of studying the ozone layer and World War II, are relevant. However, the two views in the question are not fully compared: the response does not explain why some people consider History especially important or why others prioritise science and technology in today’s world. Several points remain general, and the conclusion mainly repeats the opening claim. The response is 242 words, below the 250-word minimum; the 14 words copied from the prompt are not counted. Develop each side more fully and add a direct comparison to complete the task.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, two body paragraphs signposted by “On the one hand” and “On the other hand,” and a conclusion. Ideas generally progress from career preparation to critical thinking, and examples help readers follow the discussion. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some stronger control through paragraphing and linking. However, the progression is not always precise: the first body paragraph discusses different career needs rather than clearly developing the two opposing views, while “Therefore” and “As a result” sometimes connect ideas mechanically. The reference in “understand there solutions” is also unclear. Make the contrast between viewpoints explicit and use linking phrases only where the relationship between ideas is clear.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range for the topic, including “career pathways,” “foundation,” “academic disciplines,” and “critical thinking skills.” These choices communicate the main ideas, and some less common expressions show an attempt to be precise. At times, however, word choice and collocation are inaccurate or repetitive: “modern day society” is awkward, “will require to perform well” is not a natural expression, and “Tasks given in different subjects strengthens children independent thinking” is difficult to phrase naturally. Capitalisation is also inconsistent for “science,” and “world war 2” needs conventional styling. Aim for more natural academic collocations and vary repeated terms such as “learners” and “subjects”; these refinements would make the vocabulary more flexible and precise.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex forms, including the conditional “students who want to become lawyers…will need History” and the subordinate clause “how the Ozone layer is affected by chemicals.” Most sentences remain understandable, and errors rarely prevent the reader from following your argument. Some grammatical problems persist, though. In “Tasks given in different subjects strengthens,” the plural subject requires a plural verb; “children independent thinking” needs a possessive form; and “there solutions” should use the possessive “their.” The fragment beginning “Whereas learners…” is also not a complete sentence, and “learners…will require to perform” has an incorrect verb pattern. Review agreement, possessives, and sentence boundaries, while continuing to use varied sentence structures.
