Student answer (Band 6.0)

History provide important information about the past. Some people argue that studying history is more beneficial as compared to other subjects like Science and technology. In my opinion, all these subjects have their own benefits and importance, thats why students should study all these subject at school.

Histroy provide a clear picture about the people and events of the ancient time. People can learn alot from and this and it helps them in avoiding the mistakes people had done before them. Histroy is also a great source of motivation and inspiration for people. For example, studying the history of sub-continent give us information about how our elders fought for their freedom and rights. It gives people a motivation to never compromise their basic rights and never take their freedom far-granted. Students should learn history at school level because it will make them aware of their roots and provide them motivation to work for the betterment of country and society.

On the other hand, we cannot ignore the importance of studying science and technology. Development in the field of Science and technology has changed the world and it has resulted in many new invention which has proved very beneficial for mankind. Science has found cure for many diseases which has saved many lives. Moreover, technology has made life easier for people and saved their time. For example, invention of machinery such as washing machine has made the daily tasks very easy for people. Students should study science and technology because it help them alot in the practical field of life.

In the conclusion, I believe that all these subjects have their own importance and should be studied bu students at schools

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address both views and give a clear opinion: the introduction says all the subjects have value and should be studied, and the conclusion restates this position. The history paragraph explains learning from past mistakes and preserving awareness of cultural roots, while the science and technology paragraph gives relevant benefits such as medical advances and time-saving machinery. These examples make the response relevant and show some development. However, the discussion is not equally developed: the science side is mainly a list of benefits, and the comparison between the subjects is not explored. To strengthen the response, explain more fully why one group prioritises science and technology in today’s world, then connect your examples directly to your view that both areas deserve space in the curriculum.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two perspectives, and a conclusion. The paragraphing helps readers follow the shift signalled by “On the other hand,” and examples generally appear alongside the ideas they support. This gives the essay a coherent arrangement. Some connections are nevertheless mechanical or unclear. For instance, “People can learn alot from and this” has an unclear reference, and the history paragraph repeats the idea that studying history provides motivation. The conclusion is very brief and does not draw together the two arguments. Improve progression by making each paragraph develop one main point in a deliberate sequence, using clear references and a concluding sentence that synthesises the discussion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “ancient time,” “basic rights,” “cure for many diseases,” and “practical field of life.” There are also attempts at more specific expressions such as “motivation and inspiration” and “betterment of country and society.” However, the range is limited and several word-choice, collocation, and spelling errors reduce precision: “Histroy” is repeated, “far-granted” is incorrect, and “new invention” does not fit the plural meaning. Phrases such as “made the daily tasks very easy” are understandable but general. Build accuracy by checking spelling and choosing natural collocations, and vary repeated words such as “important,” “people,” and “study” with precise alternatives suited to the context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mixture of simple sentences and some longer structures, including the relative clause in “machinery such as washing machine has made the daily tasks very easy” and the reason clause beginning “because it will make them aware.” Meaning is generally understandable, but errors in agreement, articles, plurals, and sentence construction remain noticeable. For example, “History provide” and “it help them” need subject–verb agreement; “all these subject” needs a plural form; and “invention of machinery” needs an article or a plural construction. The final sentence also lacks a full stop. Review these patterns carefully, then practise combining accurate clauses with varied sentence structures so that complexity does not lead to avoidable errors.
