Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address both sides of the discussion and state a clear preference in the conclusion: you recommend science and technology because they provide information and can help people earn money. The paragraphs also include relevant examples, such as learning about ancient life and science leading towards a medical career. However, the discussion is only partly developed. The case for history relies mainly on learning about the past, while the benefits of science and technology are asserted rather than explained in detail. The opening is also unclear about the two positions, and the conclusion does not fully weigh the value of history against modern subjects. Develop each view with a specific reason and explain how your example supports it.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. This helps the reader follow the broad direction of the argument. You also use signposts such as “To commence,” “On the other hand,” and “To conclude.” However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow, particularly in the long science-and-technology paragraph, where several claims are joined without clear relationships. Some linking phrases are mechanical or incorrectly used, as in “Because,” at the start of a sentence and “nevertheless” where the contrast is unclear. Make each paragraph’s main point explicit, then connect supporting reasons and examples more precisely; clearer sentence boundaries and references would improve cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You attempt vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “ancient times,” “equipment,” “certificate,” and “urban society,” and you use some topic-specific terms such as “insects” and “technology.” However, the range is limited by repeated general words such as “many,” “different,” and “part,” while frequent spelling errors and inaccurate word choices sometimes make meaning difficult to understand. Examples include “vareity,” “knowlege,” “enstinal,” and “focuing.” Some phrases are also unnatural, such as “important style” and “make more money” in this academic discussion. Build a reliable set of topic vocabulary and check spelling, word forms, and collocations so that your ideas can be expressed more precisely.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “while,” “because,” and “whereas.” However, complex sentences are often faulty, and frequent errors in sentence structure, verb forms, agreement, and articles can make the reader work to understand your meaning. For example, “history is vital part” is missing an article, “it giving various kinds of information” has an incomplete verb form, and “science and technology is” has a subject–verb agreement problem. Several sentences also run together or use punctuation inaccurately, especially in the second body paragraph. Practise building accurate short sentences first, then combine them using one clear subordinate clause at a time; check articles, verb forms, and agreement during revision.
