Student answer (Band 6.5)
While some people believe that History is an essential part of our school education, others think that the study of Science and technology deserve more importance in today's era. I truly believe that while history is important as a core subject, Science and technology are more important in comparison with History.
All students should learn about history in order to learn more about our culture and heritage. It's important to know where each nations came from and their story behind its existence. For e.g. Bangladesh fought the liberation war with Pakistan during 1971 and fought for their language Bengali, and students should know the history behind it. History can also be helpful to learn from our past mistakes. We all need to know about the wars, economic crashes or epidemics that nations faced in order to avoid them or better manage them. It is also important for all citizens to be an informed citizen by understanding political history and it can help in situations such as elections while voting for their desired party.
On the other hand, people think Science and technology are far more important. In today's world, most growing and well paid jobs are in science and technology. Morever, there is a growing demand for people in tech due to the exponential growth of artificial intelligence and thus higher demand for technology. Lastly, countries who have invested in Science and technology has experienced higher growth, for e.g Singapore.
To conclude, while there are benefits of History, the merits of science and technology are much larger. Therefore, History should be in a school curriculcum as a core subject, while putting more emphasis in Science and technology for it's vast impact to a student's lives and it's reciprocal benefits.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address both views and state a clear position: History has value, but Science and technology deserve greater emphasis. The discussion of History is supported with relevant examples, including Bangladesh’s liberation war, learning from past crises, and informed voting. Your points about employment, artificial intelligence, and Singapore also respond to the opposing view. However, some claims are asserted rather than explained: for instance, you mention Singapore’s growth without showing how investment in these subjects contributed, and the employment point could be linked more clearly to students’ future opportunities. The conclusion restates your position, though the comparison could be more fully reasoned. This is a relevant, complete response, with some ideas developed more fully than others.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph for each perspective, and a conclusion. The progression from the value of historical knowledge to the practical and economic benefits of technology is easy to follow. Linking phrases such as “On the other hand” and “To conclude” help signal the stages of the argument. Some connections are less smooth within paragraphs, however. The History paragraph moves from heritage to past mistakes and then voting without explaining how these points relate to one another, while “Lastly” introduces Singapore but does not develop the link. The repeated use of “for e.g.” also feels mechanical. Clearer transitions and more explicit links between examples and claims would make the cohesion more flexible and precise.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “culture and heritage,” “economic crashes,” “exponential growth,” and “reciprocal benefits.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, and the meaning remains clear. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “essential part” and “informed citizen.” Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward: “each nations,” “well paid jobs,” and “higher growth” could be expressed more naturally as “each nation,” “well-paid jobs,” and “stronger economic growth.” “Morever” is a spelling error, and “curriculcum” is also misspelled. Greater accuracy with common academic collocations and careful proofreading would strengthen the range you already demonstrate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a concession in the introduction (“while History is important…”) and purpose clauses such as “in order to learn more.” Most sentences communicate their meaning, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “Science and technology… deserve” needs subject–verb agreement (“deserve” is acceptable only if treated as plural fields, but the later “countries… has invested” clearly requires “have invested”). “each nations” should be “each nation,” and “an informed citizen” does not agree naturally with “all citizens.” The final sentence also has agreement problems in “for it’s vast impact” and “it’s reciprocal benefits”; use “their” for the plural subjects. More consistent control of agreement, plurals, and possessives would improve accuracy.
