Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You introduce both perspectives and state your view: “I personally believe technology and science is important for the country to thrive.” You also give relevant reasons for studying history, including learning from past “breakthrough and mistakes.” However, the response only begins to discuss the history argument and does not develop the case for science and technology or provide a complete comparison. The example about the world wars is left unfinished, so it cannot support the point. The essay is also 93 words below the required minimum, which leaves the task substantially incomplete. To improve, explain both views in separate, developed paragraphs, support each with a complete example, and conclude by clearly weighing them against your opinion.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is a basic attempt to organise the response: an opening paragraph introduces the debate, followed by a paragraph about history. Phrases such as “for instance” also signal an example. However, the ideas do not progress into a complete discussion: the second paragraph ends abruptly, and there is no developed paragraph on science and technology or a conclusion. The opening sentence is difficult to follow because several ideas are joined in one long sequence with commas, and the transition from the general introduction to the history argument is not clearly signposted. Use distinct paragraphs for the introduction, each viewpoint, and the conclusion. Within them, connect each claim to its explanation and example, using linking phrases selectively.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You attempt some topic-relevant vocabulary, including “civilization,” “foundation,” “breakthrough,” “innovation,” and “peace,” which helps convey your interest in history and education. There is also some variation in how you express the ideas. However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable, including “selfaware,” “imrprove,” “reiminder,” and “enriche,” and some phrases are not natural in this context, such as “the history that wrote the great battles.” These issues sometimes make the intended meaning harder to understand. Build accuracy by checking spelling and learning common academic collocations, for example, “historical events,” “learn from past mistakes,” and “drive innovation.” Aim for precise wording rather than adding ambitious vocabulary where the phrasing is uncertain.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt to express complex relationships, particularly in the sentence beginning “history has been an essence in the civilization of man,” where you connect history with identity, learning, and future progress. However, the response relies heavily on long, loosely joined sentences, and errors in sentence structure and punctuation often make the meaning difficult to follow. For example, the opening combines several clauses without clear boundaries, while “as we need the people” does not form a clear grammatical link to the preceding idea. There are also problems with agreement and sentence completion, including “technology and science is” and the unfinished “world war 1 and 2 have been.” Practise writing shorter, complete sentences first, then add subordinate clauses with clear punctuation.
