Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both sides of the discussion and state a clear preference for science-related subjects, linking them to career choice and financial stability. The history paragraph also gives relevant reasons, such as learning about a country’s past and passing knowledge to later generations. These points meet the task, but they are not developed equally: the benefits of history remain broad, while the science argument has a clearer chain of reasoning. The examples about compulsory history lessons and science education in the USA and China are mentioned but not explained enough to show how they support the claims. To strengthen the response, develop each main point with a specific, credible example and explain its significance, while making your position explicit throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, one paragraph for each viewpoint, and a conclusion. The progression from the value of historical knowledge to the practical benefits of science is easy to follow, and signposts such as “On the other hand” and “In conclusion” help guide the reader. This meets the lower-band expectations and shows some features of stronger organisation. However, connections within paragraphs are sometimes mechanical or unclear, and the long science paragraph combines career choice, income, and country examples without clearly separating the supporting points. Some references, such as “them” in the history paragraph, are not fully clear. Use more precise linking and organise each paragraph around one main claim followed by explanation and evidence.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You attempt a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “historical knowledge,” “legislation system,” “career goals,” and “financial stability.” This gives you enough language to discuss both education and future work, and some less common choices show ambition. However, noticeable spelling and word-choice errors sometimes make the meaning difficult to follow, as in “wisedom,” “potray,” and “terchonological mindset.” There are also unnatural combinations such as “historical subject” and “make their wisedom broader.” Aim for accurate, natural collocations rather than more elaborate wording: for example, “broaden their understanding” and “develop technological skills.” Proofread spelling carefully and check whether each chosen phrase is idiomatic in context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a contrast in the introduction and conditional reasoning in the science paragraph. However, control is inconsistent: errors in agreement, articles, verb forms, and sentence boundaries occur across the response. For example, “Historical knowledge contribute” needs a singular verb, while “If a learner get to learn” has an incorrect verb form and an unclear sentence structure. Several sentences also lack appropriate capitalisation or punctuation, which makes the relationships between ideas harder to read. Work on building accurate subject–verb patterns and checking each sentence for a complete main clause. Shorter, controlled sentences will help you express the same ideas clearly while you practise more complex structures.
