Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You introduce both sides of the debate and give a clear preference for science in the conclusion, so the response does address the task. However, the discussion is only minimally developed: the history paragraph focuses mainly on children finding the subject easy, while the science paragraph makes broad claims about jobs and goals without explaining how science or technology benefits society. The examples are vague and do not clearly support the claims. Your position also shifts: the introduction says the essay will discuss why history is “better,” but the conclusion favours science. To strengthen the response, explain the value of historical knowledge as well as the practical benefits of science, then maintain one clear position and support it with specific examples. The stated length requirement is met; 20 words copied from the prompt were not counted.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. This helps the reader identify the intended discussion. However, progression within paragraphs is often unclear, and several linking expressions are repetitive or do not show a logical relationship. For example, “Furthermore” appears repeatedly, while “Additionally” introduces a point about schools teaching history that does not clearly connect to the preceding claim. Some sentences are difficult to follow because ideas are joined without clear relationships. The conclusion also introduces “better opportunities” without linking this claim to the earlier discussion. Use fewer, more precise connectors and organise each body paragraph around one main reason, followed by an explanation and a relevant example.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “history,” “science,” “technology,” “primary level,” and “mission,” and the reader can generally identify the subject of the essay. However, the range is basic and repetitive, with “important subject” and “lot of people” recurring, while several word choices or collocations make meaning unclear. For instance, “deliver the jon” and “available his goal” do not express the intended ideas clearly, and “better opportunities” is too vague to explain your preference. Spelling errors such as “modren” and “opnion” also reduce accuracy. Build a more precise set of phrases for discussing educational value, employment, and historical understanding, and check spelling and collocations carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt some longer sentences using clauses introduced by “when,” “while,” and “and,” but these structures are often faulty, and much of the writing relies on simple sentence patterns. Errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction frequently make the meaning difficult to follow. For example, “when child go to school” needs an article and subject–verb agreement, while “they learn this lesson student easily” has an unclear sentence structure. The opening also contains a run-on construction linking several ideas with commas and “and.” Practise writing one clear main clause at a time, then add subordinate clauses with accurate subjects and verbs. Check articles and punctuation during revision.
