Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You present a relevant opinion—that both subjects matter, but science and technology deserve more attention—and you briefly discuss each side. The history paragraph mentions culture, heritage and learning from past mistakes, while the science paragraph refers to jobs, communication, health and economic growth. However, the response addresses the task only partially: these points are mostly listed rather than explained, and there is no specific example to support them. Your position is stated in the introduction but is not developed in the conclusion, which mainly repeats that science and technology are essential. The response is 155 words, below the required 250, so there is not enough development to cover the discussion fully. Explain why each subject matters and support your opinion with a relevant example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable overall arrangement: an introduction, a paragraph beginning “On the one hand,” a contrasting paragraph beginning “On the other hand,” and a conclusion. These signposts help readers follow the two sides, and the main ideas are grouped by subject. However, progression within paragraphs is limited: several sentences in the history paragraph repeat the ideas of heritage and past mistakes rather than extending them. Some links are mechanical, and the conclusion does not clearly bring together the comparison or explain the reasoning behind your preference. Develop each paragraph from a main point to an explanation and example, and use referencing or linking phrases to show how each sentence advances the argument.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “culture and heritage,” “traditions,” “communication,” and “economic growth,” which makes the subject clear. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “ongoing debate” and “essential subjects.” However, the range is limited and some wording is repetitive, particularly the repeated references to history, heritage and mistakes. Several spelling errors—“Hisory,” “commmunication,” “conclusino,” and “benifits”—are noticeable, while phrases such as “hold the perception” and “history tells about previous years” are not natural collocations. Build a wider set of accurate topic phrases and check spelling and word combinations carefully; this will make your ideas more precise and fluent.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt some complex sentence forms, including the contrast in “although history provides … but science and technology is essential,” and the opening sentence contrasts two views. Most of the response, however, relies on short, simple statements, so the range of structures is limited. Errors in agreement and sentence construction are evident in “Science play” and “it contribute,” while “its also help us” has an incorrect pronoun form and verb pattern. The final sentence also combines “although” and “but” unnecessarily. Capitalisation and punctuation are inconsistent, including lowercase “i” and spacing before commas. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement and build longer sentences using one clear contrast or reason structure at a time.
