Student answer (Band 6.0)
Some people argue that history stands as a major subject in schools, whilst other people think that Science and technology subject outweigh the history subject. Both subjects are important as history plays a crucial role in preserving traditions and cultural side of a society. However, science and technology field is making waves because of its vast scope and applications related to humanity. In this essay i will discuss both perspectives and give my own opinion.
On the one hand, History is one of major subjects that is preserving heritage, traditions, and cultural aspects of a society. Moreover, it is one of the best ways of provding knowledge about the past historical incidents. For instance, many schools in Pakistan added history subject in the main course outline of 9th and 10th grade. This will encourage students to learn about the past political and cultural events of Pakistani history. However, there are very less institutes in the world that are offering history as a major subject as many other important fields have more weightage than history.
On the other hand, Science and technology fields are progressing day by day. The vast applications of these fields in medical and agricultural sectors are encouraging students to adopt these fields. Because these fields are providing more professional and academic opportunities, and are proven to be more beneficial in medicine such as in cancer treatment and in the agricultural pesticides manufacturing. For instance, a recently published research paper highlighted that around 75% of Asian students are opting science and technology fields as these fields are becoming more popular due to their scope and demand in various sectors.
To conclude this, History subject can provide the knowledge about historical events in youth. However, Science and technology is becoming more demanding because of its vast scope and practical significances in medical and agricultural sectors.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address both views and give a concluding preference for science and technology, so the response is relevant to the task. The discussion of history explains its role in preserving heritage and teaching past events, with a Pakistan-based example. The science paragraph also gives relevant applications in medicine and agriculture. However, your own position is not fully clear in the introduction: saying both subjects are important does not establish which view you support, and the conclusion only implies a preference. Some claims, such as the figure about Asian students and the statement about institutes offering history, are asserted rather than explained or connected to the argument. State your position clearly and develop fewer examples with more explanation of why they matter.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, one paragraph for each view, and a conclusion. The progression from history to science and technology is easy to follow, and signposts such as “On the one hand” and “On the other hand” help readers navigate the discussion. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some features of stronger progression. However, cohesion is occasionally mechanical, with repeated transitions and repeated references to “these fields.” The sentence beginning “Because these fields are providing…” is a fragment, which interrupts the flow between the claim about opportunities and its supporting explanation. Use clearer links between claims and examples, and vary referencing so that connections feel more natural.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “preserving traditions,” “cultural aspects,” “applications,” and “professional and academic opportunities.” These choices make the main ideas understandable, and attempts at more formal language are evident. Some less common expressions are not used naturally or precisely, however: “making waves” is informal for this essay, “outweigh the history subject” is an awkward comparison, and “practical significances” is not the natural form in this context. There are also spelling and word-form slips, such as “provding.” Aim for more accurate collocations and consistent academic register; this will make your vocabulary more precise without requiring unnecessarily complex words.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “because” and “as,” and most of the meaning remains clear. Some grammatical errors occur, but they rarely prevent understanding. For example, “In this essay i will discuss” needs a capital “I,” while “one of major subjects” is missing an article. The sentence “Because these fields are providing more professional and academic opportunities, and are proven…” is incomplete as written, and “History subject can provide the knowledge” has an awkward article pattern. Review articles, subject–verb agreement, and sentence boundaries, especially when joining explanations to main clauses. More consistently accurate complex sentences would strengthen control.
