Student answer (Band 5.5)

People have different views about whether certain people say History is a very important subject in institute or some people believe that nowadays subjects like Science and technology are higher educational values than History. While both perspective's have their own merits, I believe that Science and technology is more important because with the help of Science we understand the nature of world and our Environmental behavior and technology gives us the way to overcome environmental pollution.

On the other hand some people believe that History is a very important subject. The main reason for this is that History gives us information about past events and cultures shape of modern world. For Example the History of Pakistan independence is important for all Pakistani people because we achieved Pakistan through the sacrifices of our ancestors. So, we celebrate independence on 14 august every year. The reason is to celebrate this day to remember the sacrifice of our ancestors. Therefore, supporters of this perspective argue that History is important subject to study.

On the other hand, other believe that Science and technology are very important subjects to teach. This is because Science provide information to understand environmental behavior such as water pollution and air pollution. Water pollution is the contamination of water bodies like lakes, revers, ocean and ground water. By the help of science we understand how these resources are contaminated and by the help of technology we get strategies to overcome this contamination in water. As a result the subjects like Science and technology is more beneficial and convenient than History.

In conclusion, although some people support History as an important subject because it gives information about past events which are more important to know, I believe that Science and technology are more important due to give information about world

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both sides of the discussion and state a clear preference for Science and technology in the introduction and conclusion. The Pakistan independence example is relevant and helps explain why History matters, while the pollution example supports your view of the practical value of Science and technology. However, the two sides are not developed equally: the History paragraph mainly explains remembering past sacrifices, and the Science paragraph focuses narrowly on pollution. The claim that technology helps overcome pollution would be stronger with a specific strategy or example, and the conclusion ends with a broad, incomplete reason rather than fully summarising your argument. Develop each main point with clearer explanation and evidence.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. This makes the overall direction understandable. However, progression is weakened by repetitive and sometimes confusing linking. Both body paragraphs begin with “On the other hand,” even though the second introduces the opposing view, and “Therefore” and “As a result” sometimes repeat conclusions rather than advance the reasoning. Some references are unclear, such as “this day” and “these resources,” while the final sentence stops without completing the idea. Use transitions that show the precise relationship between points, and make each paragraph build from a topic sentence to explanation and a clear concluding link.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “past events,” “cultures,” “environmental pollution,” “contamination,” and “sacrifices,” so the reader can follow the main ideas. There are also attempts at more specific language, such as “water bodies.” However, word choice and collocation are often inaccurate or repetitive: “higher educational values” does not express the intended comparison, “cultures shape of modern world” is unclear, and “convenient” is not a natural description of school subjects in this context. Spelling errors such as “revers” and inconsistent capitalisation also reduce accuracy. Build a more precise range of phrases for discussing educational value and environmental solutions, and check spelling and collocations during revision.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a concession clause beginning “While both…” and explanations introduced by “because” and “such as.” These structures help communicate relationships between ideas. However, some errors in agreement, articles, plurals, and sentence construction remain. For example, “Science provide information” needs subject–verb agreement, and “History is important subject” needs an article. The opening sentence is difficult to follow because its two views are joined in an awkward structure, while the final phrase “due to give information about world” is grammatically incomplete. Aim for clear, controlled sentences first, then check agreement and articles, especially when writing general statements.
