Student answer (Band 6.0)

In today's world, there is ongoing debate between school subjects while some people think that historical knowledge is essential. Others argue that Science and technology are more important than history. Both viewpoints will be discussed in this essay before explaining why I believe that in modern world Sciences and technology are far more crucial than History.

Admittedly, History is one of the most important academic subject to read because it gives exposure to heritage and ancestral legacy. It contains many past era events through which importance of historical buildings and places can be understand although it enhance your vision and knowledge. For instance, history students read about the earlier times and whenever they visited some historical site they can explore it with more excitement as they have seen it in their books with every minor detail. Therefore, this subject has its own place in academics and some people think that history has same value as other subjects which is quite convincing.

On the other hand, some people believed that Science and technology subjects are important than history because it demand is increasing in this advanced era vigorously. The primary reason of this is that these subjects are competing with modern society as it provides you latest ongoing trends with multiple career opportunities while history gives you only a specific knowledge. Furthermore, Science subjects allows you to perform scientific researches and IT gives you many skills. For instance, science students can pursue their career in labs whereas, technology has many fields to continue such as engineering with a lot of skills. As a result, these two subjects holds more significant place in academics than history. In my view, I agree with the people who think Science and technology are more essential subjects.

In conclusion, it is a common belief that history is the important subject but in my opinion Science and technology are more crucial than history because they are trendy and gives more career opporuinities.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both sides of the discussion and state your position clearly: you consider History’s value before arguing that Science and technology are more important. The examples about visiting historical sites and pursuing laboratory or engineering careers are relevant, and the conclusion restates your view. However, the two sides are not developed equally: the benefits of History are mainly linked to heritage and site visits, while the case for Science and technology is broader but still general. Claims such as these subjects offering “multiple career opportunities” would be stronger with a specific example or explanation of how they benefit society. The response therefore covers the task, but some ideas remain under-developed or unclear. The length requirement is met; eight words copied from the task prompt were not counted.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. The progression from History’s cultural value to the practical and career-related benefits of Science and technology is easy to follow. Linking phrases such as “On the other hand,” “For instance,” and “In conclusion” help signal the stages of the argument. To make the organisation more effective, avoid relying on formulaic transitions and make the relationship between ideas clearer within sentences. For example, the sentence beginning “The primary reason of this” combines demand, modern society, and career opportunities without a precise logical link. Some references, including “these two subjects,” are also broad. Clearer topic sentences and more explicit connections would strengthen the progression.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “heritage,” “ancestral legacy,” “historical site,” “scientific researches,” and “career opportunities.” These choices show an effort to discuss the topic beyond basic terms. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, which limits precision: “gives exposure to heritage,” “demand is increasing … vigorously,” and “history gives you only a specific knowledge” do not express the intended ideas naturally. There are also spelling and word-form problems, such as “opporuinities.” Aim for familiar, accurate collocations rather than adding elaborate phrases, and check spelling carefully. More precise vocabulary for describing practical benefits and cultural understanding would make the argument clearer.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “because,” “although,” and “while,” and most of the argument remains understandable. Some grammatical errors, however, affect accuracy. For example, “one of the most important academic subject” needs a plural noun, and “can be understand” has an incorrect verb form. Agreement is also inconsistent in “it enhance,” “Science subjects allows,” and “these two subjects holds.” The sentence beginning “although it enhance your vision” is difficult to connect grammatically to the preceding clause. Review subject–verb agreement, verb forms after modal verbs, and sentence boundaries. More consistently accurate complex sentences would help you express the relationships between ideas with greater control.
