Student answer (Band 6.0)

There is an ongoing debate about whether history is one of the most crucial school subject or whether students should be required to study subjects like Science and technology because they are more significant than history. In this essay, I will discuss both views and then give my own opinion.

Those who support history argue that it can make school students to more aware of own past people, our ancestors and, their local culture and native language. School students know: how people can lived their live and, how they can trade and, how they can communicate the pupils in the older time. Which food they can eat and cooked. How they can conquered the cities and ruled with honesty and this can remined the children to our legends.

On the other hand, many people believe that in today’s world students can learn subjects like Science and technology because world has entered into an modern era. In every walk of life, we can use a machines in our daily life. If we travel another cities we use transports like bus, car, train and aeroplane, and travel million of miles in few hours this can possible with the help of modern science and technology. For example, today Artificial intelligent has become so popular because they are so helpful for every person and students can asked every question with the relevant of our topic.

In conclusion, both history and science and technology have valid advantages and disadvantages. While, history subject can aware the students with the forefather and local culture of the society, science and technology can helpful to our daily life. In my opinion, a balanced approach, such as study the both history and science, would be the most practical solution.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both sides of the discussion and state a clear opinion: studying both subjects is the most practical solution. The history paragraph gives relevant reasons, including learning about ancestors and local culture, while the science paragraph connects technology to transport and artificial intelligence. However, the two sides are not developed equally clearly. Some history examples, such as how people “conquered the cities and ruled with honesty,” are difficult to interpret and are not explained, and the AI example would benefit from a clearer link to why science education matters. To strengthen the response, explain each main reason more fully and use a specific, relevant example to support your balanced position.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion that restates your position. Transitions such as “On the other hand” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the discussion, and the progression from history to modern technology is easy to recognise. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent overall arrangement and also shows some stronger paragraph-level organisation. However, cohesion is not consistently smooth: the history paragraph strings together several questions and fragments (“Which food they can eat and cooked”), so the relationship between points is unclear. Use complete sentences, group related examples, and connect each example explicitly to the paragraph’s main claim.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “ancestors,” “local culture,” “modern era,” and “artificial intelligence,” and you attempt to discuss both historical and technological ideas. However, the range and control are limited, with noticeable word-choice, collocation, and word-form problems that sometimes make meaning unclear. For example, “make school students to more aware” and “travel million of miles in few hours this can possible” do not express the intended ideas naturally. Some repetition of “students,” “history,” and “science and technology” also limits flexibility. Build a bank of accurate topic collocations and check whether each word fits its grammatical and contextual role.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, including a contrastive opening and conditional-style examples, and the overall meaning is usually recoverable. However, control is inconsistent: errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries occur in several places. Examples include “students can asked,” “world has entered into an modern era,” and the fragment “Which food they can eat and cooked.” The long sentence beginning “If we travel another cities” also joins ideas without clear grammatical control. Practise building accurate clauses first, then combine them with conjunctions and relative clauses. Pay particular attention to subject–verb agreement, verb forms after modal verbs, and punctuation between complete sentences.
