Student answer (Band 6.0)

Certain people believe that History is among the most crucial school subjects. Others support the idea that Science and Technology are most important than History in this modern world.

The former sentiment has its own significance and is true to some extent. History plays a crucial role in educating young students about their customs and traditions. They become aware of the sacrifices that their ancestors have made in order to achieve freedom. In addition, the students feel emotionally connected to their heritage and history by the mere study of the subject. For instance, the countries in which History is included as a subject are well connected of their heritage and they feel lively even after hundreds of years.

On the other hand, subjects like Science and Technology can never be neglected due to their own significance.Through their knowledge, it has been made possible to live a peaceful and comfortable life. Moreover, science gives you the knowledge of the world in which we are living for millions of years while technology keeps you updated with this modern world. New inventions have been introduced almost everyday. If one do not have enough knowledge about Science and Technology, he will feel leftover. For example, the countries that included Science and Technology in their academics a long ago, are making progress in this modern field by leeps and bounds.

In my opinion, the subjects Science and Technology are the most important among all other academic subjects because their knowledge gives you an exposure to grow in the modern world. One can make significant progress by having enough knowlegde. History keeps you confined to the past while Technology gives you a chance to boom in this world.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response discusses both perspectives and gives a clear opinion in the final paragraph, so the main parts of the task are covered. The points about heritage, ancestors’ sacrifices, and the practical benefits of scientific knowledge are relevant. However, some support remains general: the example about countries being “well connected of their heritage” does not identify a country or explain how studying history produces this result. The Science and Technology argument is more developed, but claims such as these subjects enabling a “peaceful and comfortable life” would benefit from a specific example. The opinion that History confines people to the past is also asserted rather than explained. Develop each main reason with a concrete illustration and a clearer explanation of its significance.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay has a coherent overall arrangement: an introduction, one paragraph for each view, and a concluding paragraph stating your position. Transitions such as “On the other hand” and “In my opinion” make the direction of the argument easy to follow, and ideas within each body paragraph generally stay on topic. This meets the lower-band expectations and shows some features of stronger progression. To make the links more flexible and precise, avoid relying mainly on formulaic transitions and clarify references such as “the former sentiment” and “their knowledge,” whose meaning depends on the reader inferring the intended subject. Also connect examples directly to the claims they are meant to support, rather than moving quickly from one assertion to another.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “customs and traditions,” “heritage,” “significance,” and “modern world.” There are also attempts at less common expressions, such as “emotionally connected” and “significant progress.” However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, including “most important than,” “connected of their heritage,” “feel leftover,” and “by leeps and bounds.” Spelling errors such as “knowlegde” also reduce accuracy. These issues do not prevent the reader from understanding your main points, but they limit precision and naturalness. Focus on learning common academic collocations and checking spelling; choose straightforward, accurate phrasing when you are unsure of an idiom.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The response includes a mix of simple and complex forms, including subordinate clauses with “in order to” and “while,” and the meaning is generally clear. Some sentences are controlled, such as “History plays a crucial role in educating young students about their customs and traditions.” However, there are some errors in agreement, articles, and sentence construction. For example, “If one do not have” should use “does,” and “the subjects Science and Technology are” would be more naturally structured as “Science and Technology are.” The sentence beginning “Moreover, science gives you the knowledge…” shifts from “students” to “you,” weakening consistency. There is also missing spacing after “significance.” Review subject–verb agreement and maintain consistent subjects and pronouns while retaining your varied sentence forms.
