Student answer (Band 5.5)

Now a days, many people think that subject history is the most compulsory subject in schools but some people believe that today's world science and technology subject is the more important rather than history. Both views have own merits and demerits but in my prespective history subject is more important than sciences subjects because with the help of history students know about their ancestors and also attached with their cultures and traditions.

Firstly,it is true that science and technology subjects are important because with the help of science and technology humans achieve many goals in their life.science also help in medical and other fields of life.Technology also improves the life of students and also help them in any difficulties of questions related to their studies. With the help of science human also capable to do those things which are impossible for humans. For example, cancer is very dangerous disease all over the world but now a days science find their treatment.

Moreover, history is one of the most important school subjects because with the help of this subject students know about their ancestors and also attached with thier cultures and traditions. The students of history subject also learn about their ancestor's life and their ways of ruling on the world. In this subject learners also read the cultures and traditions of their forefathers.Basically cultures and traditions are main pillar of any society and with the help of this subject we strong our society and strong mindsets of our new generation. For example,in Pakistan many universities offer master in history subject in this degree instructors teach the students about ottoman empire, mughal empire and othe empires of islam which ruled all over world .

In conclusion, many people think that history is most compulsory subject but most of people say that science and technology subjects are the most important than history both sides have their own mwerits and demeirts but in my prespective history is the most important subject because by this students know about their ancestors and also know about their cultures and tradutions.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You discuss both perspectives and state a consistent preference for History, so the main parts of the prompt are recognisable. The paragraph on Science and technology gives relevant examples, especially medical advances and cancer treatment, while the History paragraph explains links with ancestors, culture and traditions. However, the discussion is only partly developed: the benefits of Science are listed rather than compared with History, and the claim that History strengthens society is not fully explained. The Pakistan university example names empires but does not show clearly how studying them benefits students today. To strengthen the response, explain each view with a specific consequence and make your own comparison more explicit. The response meets the stated length requirement; the nine words copied from the prompt were not counted.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. Sequencing words such as “Firstly,” “Moreover,” and “In conclusion” help signal these stages, and the reader can generally follow the central argument. However, progression within paragraphs is often list-like, with several points joined by repeated “and also” rather than developed through clear cause-and-effect links. The conclusion largely repeats the introduction instead of drawing together the comparison. Some references, such as “this subject” and “their,” could be clearer about whether they refer to History, students or ancestors. Use more precise links between claims and examples, and organise each body paragraph around one main point to make the progression easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “medical,” “cultures and traditions,” “ruling,” and “empires.” However, the range is limited and several words or phrases are repeated, particularly “important,” “subject,” and “with the help of.” There are also noticeable spelling and word-choice problems, such as “prespective,” “thier,” “mwerits,” and “tradutions,” as well as unnatural combinations like “most compulsory subject” and “strong our society.” These errors sometimes make the intended meaning less clear. Build a wider set of accurate academic collocations and check spelling carefully; for example, describe History as “a core subject” and say that it “strengthens social understanding” rather than “strong our society.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences using clauses such as “because” and “which,” but the range is limited and complex sentences are often not controlled accurately. Errors occur frequently in agreement and verb forms: “science also help,” “science find their treatment,” and “we strong our society” need corrected verb forms. Articles and sentence boundaries are also problematic, as in “cancer is very dangerous disease” and the run-on opening “...rather than history. Both views...”. Missing spaces after punctuation and inconsistent capitalisation further affect accuracy. Practise building shorter, complete sentences first, then combine them with accurate subordinate clauses. Check subject–verb agreement, articles and punctuation during revision so that the reader does not have to work to interpret your meaning.
