Student answer (Band 6.0)
There is ongoing debate whether History would be considered one of the most important subjects in school or wether Science and Technology deserve great attention in modern world. Both views have its significant important but I contend Science subjects have greater responsibility because human life depends upon it.
On the one hand, History plays an important role in helping students understand past and learn valuable lessons from it. By studing historal events, students can understand how societies in the past developed and what mistakes they made and implement on the present as many social, political and cultural situations are result of the history. For example, world war 2 teaches us how important is peace in nations.
On the other hand, many people argue that Science and Technology have much higher important in todays world. Development in scientic sector would help making life easier and secure. For instance, advancement in this subject lead to growth in medical curing diesease and also in communication as it makes our life easier. Science subjects have vast range and field which student can choose from allow them to have different multiple paths.
In my opinion, History teaches us how our life was and have its great importance culturally and historically while Science and technology teahces us how our life will be in future. A modern society needs to have advancement in its science sector in order to thrive in todays world.
In conclusion, i strongly agree that both subjects have its great importance. Science and technology advantages are slightly higher than history as no doubt we learn alot from past but thinking about future is what todays world need.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address both sides of the discussion and state a clear preference for science and technology, especially in the opening and conclusion. The history paragraph gives a relevant reason—learning from past mistakes—and the example of World War II supports the value of peace. You also mention medical advances and communication as benefits of science. This covers the task well, but some ideas are less fully developed: for example, the claim that science offers “different multiple paths” is not explained, and the comparison between cultural learning from history and future progress through science remains broad. To strengthen the response, explain how these examples affect students or society and develop the basis for judging science as more important.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, your opinion, and a conclusion. The progression is easy to follow, and signposts such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” help readers recognise each stage of the argument. The main opportunity is to make links between ideas more precise and less formulaic. For instance, the science paragraph moves from medical advances to communication and then career choices without explaining how these points connect. The opinion paragraph also repeats the contrast between history and science rather than extending the reasoning. Use clearer references and add linking explanations so each example builds on the paragraph’s main claim.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “social, political and cultural,” “advancement,” “medical,” and “communication,” which allows you to discuss both subjects. However, the range and control are uneven, and several inaccurate word choices or collocations make the writing less natural. Examples include “great attention,” “much higher important,” “medical curing disease,” and “Science subjects have vast range and field.” There are also spelling errors such as “studing,” “historal,” “scientic,” and “teahces.” These do not prevent the reader from understanding the main points, but they reduce precision and sometimes interrupt fluency. Build a bank of natural academic collocations and check spelling and word forms carefully when editing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a subordinate clause in “By studying historical events…” and a contrast introduced by “while.” The overall meaning is generally clear, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “Both views have its” has a pronoun-agreement problem, “students can understand how important is peace” has incorrect word order, and “Science and technology advantages are” needs a possessive form. Articles and plurals are also inconsistent, as in “in modern world” and “a vast range and field.” These errors rarely prevent understanding, but they limit accuracy. Practise agreement, article use, possessives, and indirect-question word order, then proofread each sentence for a clear subject and verb.
